coal bin to hopper

coal bin to hopper

Has anyone out there put a coal bin outside and connect it directly to the hopper? I have a raised ranch that I can put the bin outside against the house and run duct work thru the wall...then connect it to the hopper in the basement...in theory. I'm just curious if anyone else has used gravity to run the coal to the hopper or if there were any problems in doing that?

Welcome and I believe it's been done. You need to get your delivery earlier in the season so all the moisture is dried up so the coal won't freeze during winter and the bin will needs to be weather proof with a roof.

Make sure you have a good pitch and it shouldn't be a problem

Thanks for the info guys! I hadn't thought about the freezing Dennis. Wiz I did plan on pitching about 45 degrees & lining it with aluminum to help it slide. Cool setup you have mdrelyae! I don't plan on elevating my bin since I have a raised ranch, but I never would have thaought about 4" PVC. Looking forward to a challenging project.

Depending what size coal you burn, check out shop vac system. Works with rice and buck anything bigger it'll not work

Just to clarify - that isn't my bin. That's another user's bin. I wish I had that setup though! It's the best one I've ever seen.

I'd use PVC but aluminum or SS will work too.
