PLACEMENT OF MPD ON GODIN, CHUBBY, ETC.

I just saw a few pics of MPDs installed immediately back of the horizontal exit flue. I installed my MPD about 18" up from the exit flue. What are the benefits to having the
MPD as close as possible to the stove flue? By placing the MPD right after the flue, will this slow the daft, retain more heat in the fire box, extend the burn, etc.?

I just saw a pic of a fellow with a Chubby and he has the MPD mounted right after the horizontal flue exit. I am running a Large Round Godin.

vmi, your MPD is positioned just fine, it's more about preference that could be discussed for hours. As long as you're before your chimney vent, it will help with over draft plus keep more heat in the stove area no matter what the stove. Just an old farmers experience

I have the same stove as you. My MPD is about 18" from the stove (see mt avatar picture, the MPD handle is at the top edge of the picture)) I have a 90° elbow right at the outlet, then a vertical section of pipe. As Freetown Fred said it is more about preference or convenience. As long as it is a few inches from the stove and before the chimney it is fine.
