Alaska 140 Thermostat Control

Just making sure I understand its operation..

The idle & High settings are just a timed event, the control does not increase or decrease auger speed, its at a continuous 2rpm,
The idle is timed from 1 ~ ?? and when the T Stat calls for heat it goes to high setting of 5 ~ ?? ( 1 & 5 being the standard settings)

So the control just extends the auger run time to whatever your setting are..

If this is the case, does anyone know the approximate timer increments to number position ???

Your understanding is correct. It's just a timed event and the auger speed does not change. Mine turns at 1.7 rpm.

My control box is a different style, but my idle setting is as low as it will go. My thermostat setting is 35 out of 100 when burning coal. Roughly right assuming everything else is equal between our controllers that would be 1/3 of your maximum setting. So for example if your maximum setting is 10 then you would set it to just a smidge over 3. I have a 1500 sq ft ranch with about 500 sq ft heated in the basement and the thermostat set at 69. If your house/heating load is bigger you will need a higher setting than that.

Generally speaking, you want the idle as low as it'll go without the fire going out and the thermostat setting as low as it can be but still be able to keep the house warm.
