Heat Surge - Amish made heater saves money?

PostBy: WNY On: Wed Dec 19, 2007 4:37 pm

I am seeing this all over the newspapers, local channels, etc....This saves you money on heating???

How the heck does a 1500WATT electric heater save money??? First, the unit costs over $500.

You can get the portable heaters (air or oil) much cheaper (Under $100, that good as good a job)!!

(this should generate some conversations.... :)

It's just another steaming pantload of cr@p just like that Eden Pure heater that Paul Harvey is hawking. Electricity is the same no matter what sort of heater you use it in as long as it's resistance heat. 1500 watts will make about 5200Btu, I believe. Whether it's in a $500 heater or a $15 heater, it's still the same - laws of physics don't change.

Only way it can save money is if you can turn off the heat in the rest of the house and just run the heater in a single room. That might work. And, with the price of oil or propane, electricity is actually cost competitive as long as your kWh rate isn't too bad.

It's only 5,119 BTU’s ... Good for a small room. The question I have is why is it so big. I did a quick check and thats about what one of those small ceramic disc heaters output. You probably open it up and thats whats inside.

Yeah, my brother asked me about that thing just the other day. I quoted Million BTU costs from that link Mr Simpson posted! :punk: I talked him out of it, since he already had an electric room heater to use. He's in a town house stuck with natual gas and no Chimney! People are suckers for Amish stuff!

Yes, I think our little 10" x 10" ceramic heater is like 1000 or 1200 watts....how about a hair dryer....that's about the same!

BUT, only the MANTLE is AMISH made, NOT the heater (Probably made in China). AND they normally do not have their pictures taken, so I wonder if the Advertisements are really Amish People?

It's not like the Amish have electricity to test them or use them???

I saw an add for one of those things and noticed at the top or bottom of the page in small letters " This is an advertisement"

They make it look like a engineering breakthrough, it reeked of Bull *censored* to me!

It's like some of the Amish furnature they sell here locally, look out back of the store and see all the boxes marked by importers.

Crap Galore, sure enough!

It's all bull. An electric resistance element with a fan behind it, in a fancy box with a picture of a fire (maybe backlighted).

The web site mentioned "technology from the China coast".
All the pictures must have been carefully staged, imagine the Amish building those using the hand wood working tools in the pictures, in one of their barns. Absurd.
And yes, it is true that the Amish usually do not allow their pictures to be taken.
On the website there is a fleeting mention of the Mennonites as well, I suppose that's to help validate the claims.
Usually the Amish women don't work outside of the home, so seeing the women in the "Fireless Fireplace" factory further adds proof that it's all staged.

If its 10* outside, the only way that is going to keep you warm is if you are curled up in the fetal position and laying on top of it with a quilt. And in a year it will be burnt out. I bought a 25 year old boiler for the same money about 14 years ago and it will probably be burning coal long after I'm dead and gone.

Just another way that some "entrepreneur" is seeking to make a fortune by preying on the unwashed (or uninformed) masses.

Well, when it burns out, that nice Amish mantle should be great to get a coal fire started. :)

lots of people buy them, there is usually at least one on the UPS truck when he comes every day to get my shipments. The ad is a load of crap the way they use the Amish to sell these things, shame.

As much as I agree that exploiting the Amish craftsmanship is low, no one is holding a gun to any of their heads to stand for those photographs. I doubt those folks in the pics are even Amish.

The chances are very good that they are actors in costume.

They brag about the craftsmanship of the cabinet, yet make no mention of its innards.

The HEAT SURGE miracle heater is a work of engineering genius from the China coast, so advanced you simply plug it into any standard wall outlet

Quoted from the Heat Surge website.

Engineering Genius!
