Ash disposal...what is appropriate?

I thought about ash disposal...what is the "proper" way of ash disposal? With wood ash I just took it out back and dumped it. I know coal ash has more sulfurs and metals in it, is there a special way we should dispose of it?

Chances are you have eaten some fruits and veggies that have had coal ash used on them...

I used mine to build raised flower beds around the house. I was having issues with heavy rain water flow down the hill, right up against my foundation. The flower beds were 100 percent successful at diverting the water to flow in a new pattern way around the house. I planted Rhododendrons in them because they love acid soil. They will grow and be happy there.

I till a bunch in my veggy garden every year--top off gravel driveway--bank stone foundation in this old farm house (fills all nooks & cranny's--coat the edges of my pond to seal any leakage---need more????????

I guess I will not be taking them to the landfill!

I put an ad on craigslist offering free coal ashes. I now deliver to a gentleman that has a long country driveway every few weeks.
Usually two 45 gallon totes. It's a nice country drive and he appreciates it very much. Gave me a bunch of deer meat last trip.
If needed I use some for the bottom slope of my own driveway.

Mine go neatly out with the trash. Contractor strength trash bag gets the contents of a galvanized garbage can where hot ashes cool.

Last year mine went onto the burn pile at the back of our yard, but this year the ashes are so reduced that I just put them in a plastic garbage bag and set them out with the trash.

Mine go in the driveway.

Mine go to the local MUA in contractor bags. I have to take them there myself as the trash men refused to take the bags I left.

I have however, been considering using it to level my yard since the septic contractor did a bang up job screwing it up. I'm just not sure how it'd work out.

I fill the empty bags with the stuff, and it gets hauled away for me
on trash pickup day...

Doug you shouldn't even JOKE about something like that. You know the kind of "Enviro Nazi's" that live in this state. Do you really want the EPA, DEP, MassCon, Greenpeace, The Committee to Save the Whales, Hispanic Lesbians Against Racism, Bella Abzub and every other fringe lefto whacko group picketing your house over the perceived idea of you dumping coal ash in a wet land area?
