Also the 6th richest state in the country measured by median income. So it averages out.

And that makes it ok ......... how???

This has been going on for YEARS. Imagine how cheap it would be to live here if these morons on Beacon Hill actually spent our money WISELY.

This is what happens when democrats get a super-majority for decades straight. If you listen to Obama, with no Republicans "holding them back" we should have streets paved with gold and nobody in poverty. How's that working??? What we have is a state in MASSIVE debt, crappy roads, and cities FULL of people on the government tit.

At least you aren't in Vermont, we've attained the number one spot. Thank you liberal democrats...and you too Bernie Sanders, communist prick. :x

BTW Smitty, we too have crappy roads, panhandlers, and the usual derelicts hanging out in front of Wal Mart in their pink pajamas at 4:00PM.

Does if you hang out in front of the local one in Rutland. :D You oughta see that sight.

I do feel bad for Wal-Mart in this case, they weren't allowed to build what they wanted, and where (read out of reach of walking dirtbags). They were corralled into an existing building IF they wanted to put a store in that town.

Alaska is the ultimate wealfare state.
Unlike any other state we are allowed to tax oil that comes out of the ground, this money goes to the state. No state taxes, annual permanent fund check, imagine how little people would care about state spending if it didn't come from your paycheck. I mean we are set up like the middle east, oil comes out of the ground, goverment collects the money and spends it however they want. We are first on the pork per capita list 506$ per person from Washinton, Arizona was last at 18$ per person. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/was ... arks_N.htm I realize that artical is old but things don't change fast.

This is also from 2008 but it shows the problem. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2427212/Pork- ... a-by-State

Watcha complaining about? I moved from #2 to #3! Personally, I just don't see it. There are plenty of jobs here. But I am assuming that the jobs are lower paying then the welfare benefits. Any amount of $9 to $12 dollar jobs. I know, try to make it on that pay. but if you are not qualified to do anything and you come in with your pants around the back of your knees, what do you expect? There is a huge disconnect between the blacks and whites, and both sides make sure it stays that way. Really quite sad.

The first thing I looked at was which States went for President Obama, vs. their level of pork absorption per capita. At first casual glance, to me there seems to be little to no correlation between a States politicians bringing home the pork and a States citizenry's political leaning. Right and left States are both just as likely or unlikely to feed heavily from the government trough.

Unfortunately, I'm getting offered $12/hr for jobs here and I'm working on my second college degree. I have 3 certifications from national organizations and a statee heating license and all employers want to pay is $12/hr.

At this rate, I may call the last 2 years a wash and go find another machine shop. At least they want to offer me $16 for 20 years experience....

This is why after 2 years at MMI Phoenix, with top grades, I got my CDL and began hauling freight. $9/hr don't cut it in MA or CA ... or anywhere for that matter.

At any point in my life I could have just thrown my hands up and said "I HAVE ASTHMA - GIVE ME FREE MONEY!" ... but I chose not to.

I agree guys, I looked for something else besides my trade. No way. I was even offered $12 to do my trade! Here I am back in it to make the money I need but no benefits. I was willing to accept less money to have benefits, but $12 is what I was making in 1980.
