I think everyone who voted for obama should be forced to dig their own graves. They've all condemned us.

I voted for Obama IOF, I got one foot in my grave already but would be glad to dig more if you hurry up & use them (just kidding on that). I haven't really looked into this but that law has been in effect since (I think) the 40s, I know things have been added over the years & there was a big deal about Vets being ripped off in the early Bush years but I thought that had been settled. For the life of me I can't figure out why they wouldn't want a mentally incapacitated person Vet or not to not be allowed to own a firearm. As I said I don't know if that's new wording or not.

Sam, I probably should've added a smiley. It was a joke. Although, I do dislike Obama and did not vote for him. I was reading up on it and the law is pretty old. They even state in the article that it's nothing new. I feel like they are trying to add fire to an already raging inferno.

The key to denying guns to those deemed mentally incompetent is: Exactly what is incompetence, and far more importantly, who determines the definition of mental incompetence?

Is being a Tea Party member a sign of incompetence?
Is being a Libertarian a sign of incompetence?
Is belief in God a sign of incompetence?
Is Fundamentalism a sign of incompetence?
Is anger over President Obama's re-election a sign of incompetence?
Is being pro-life a sign of incompetence?
Is the desire to have voters ID's checked a sign of incompetence?
Is the concern that there might have been voter fraud in the last Presidential election a sign of incompetence?
Is believing in individual sovereignty and liberty as opposed to the "collective good" a sign of incompetence?
Is the possession of literature from the Founders a sign of incompetence?
Is reading (and finding that you are in agreement with) Atlas Shrugged a sign of incompetence?
Is having seen a psychologist or psychiatrist at any point in your life a sign of incompetence?
Etc....

Short version: Will the Obamacare health decision panels decide if you are or are not mentally competent to own a gun?

As I understand it Smitty this is standard if they are filing a claim for PTSD or have other mental issues, it's on a sliding scale and as I understand it at some point on that scale it's considered you're mentally incompetent to own a firearm. I'm not so sure how you can claim or be deemed to be mentally ill and then expect to keep your guns.

The big issue here as I see it is Veterans avoiding the help they need in fear of losing their guns especially if there is bunch of misinformation being spread.

The other issue is the VA arbitrarily deciding this by themselves.

Your right Richard, as with most things it was a good program to begin with & then allowed to become too corrupted with the wrong people ripping off the Vets but as I said I thought that was mostly cleared up under Bush but there may be more that needs done.

The thing is these Vets did what they had to do and nobody seemed to have a problem with them doing that. Now since they did what ever it is they had to do they are judged on that. It's wrong to assume anything about any of them. I know quite a few Vets including some that were snipers. They are as mentally "stable" as anyone else I know. The only incompetence I see regularly is the government and what is done about that?

NOBODY is advocating for a mentally deranged person to have access to firearms - don't play into the left's talking points, guys!

My whole point of this post is how the government can deem a COMPLETELY SANE AND RATIONAL veteran INCOMPETENT ... and then appoint a fiduciary (which CAN be a total stranger) to handle THEIR LIFE!! This is BULLSHIT!!

You all know full well the government will use this to further their agenda, whatever that may be at that particular moment -- for right now, it's people control via "gun control".

SB, they aren't talking about all Vets, if you don't have any mental health or really disabling injuries there is no problem, I really think it was to lessen the # of suicides among returning vets. I was able to get my CCP right after discharge without any more problem than a name change & false SS#.
OK Smitty, I give up lets allow anybody & everybody to use any arm they want for any purpose they want because the second doesn't say not to, just like when Ronnie Rayguns opened the doors of the asylums & shut most of them down that worked real well.
