"New" Chubby

Just brought home my completely refurbished blower Chubby I purchased from Larry Trainer. She's a beauty and I can't wait to get her hooked up! Larry has done a fantastic job restoring and improving his stoves he sells. His new style shaker grate is extremely smooth. Plus, I can't say enough about the amazing customer service Larry provides...it's the best seen to date...great guy who stands by his proven product...thank you Larry!

and I'll be even more impressed when I see him at least participate for a few minutes while he sips on his coffee with this forum. I know many people would love to hear from him if nothing else to say hello and allow us to thank him for many decades of warmth from his stoves.

I couldn't be happier with my Chubby... . He is an extremely nice guy who proves customer service isn't dead! His stoves are practically bullet proof too.

yep, they sure burn coal nice for sure.... now tell larry that Doug Crane is helping his customers on the largest forum regarding his stoves (maybe that will get his butt online! )

They certainly are sharp stoves to be sure. I did like the one I had a few years ago, wish it were able to heat my home.

Congrats on your "new" Chubby!! Do you have her up and running yet?

Burned some wood in her last night...first coal fire later today. Love this stove!

Is that a faux fireplace behind the stove? is that one of those prefab hearth's i wanted to buy for $27,000.00 (could not believe the price of those things ), what happened to the old school wooden handles? I know the Chubby always included a manual damper built in the steel or cast flu (why is yours on the pipe?)

It is a faux fireplace built out of slate. Originally, it was even faux painted to resemble marble...way before I owned it. It's a prefab hearth I bought at TSC on clearance...1/2 off! All the restos and new Chubby's have the wire style handles. The top vented Chubby's do not have a built in MPD; so, I added mine in the first section of stove pipe.

Nice Stove and set up. The blowers will make a big difference in the heat distribution. Good luck with her.

I too like the Chubby blower better then most (It employes heavy gauge steel tubes that hover right above the firebox inside the stove as opposed to the more typical shroud that only surrounds the exterior walls of the stove). This does a couple things... #1 it creates MUCH more heat inside the chamber of moving air #2 it reduces the radiant heat loss of a shroud surrounding the exterior walls of the stove... great design!

The wood handles are a thing of the past. I traded in an original rear vent Chubby and it had wood handles. Larry was amazed when I showed up with an original unit. I asked him about the wood handles and he told me he switched to wire handles because they don't get as hot as the wood handles did. I can agree, owning both styles the wire handle is much nicer to grab. The wood handle would get red hot, you would need a glove to grab it! As far as the MPD goes, the rear vent stoves included one in the rear flue but the top vent stoves don't include one. Great looking stove mikterkris!
