They need to stop the attitude that if you don't go to college, your going to end up living in a dumpster. We've got enough of our youth in those indoctrination mills as it stands right now. Kids up to their eyeballs in debt with no hope of ever finding work in their field. Debt is skyrocketing as college tuition goes through the roof. For what?

There is a shortage of hands-on workers. That's a fact. What will all the yuppies do when nobody can fix their car, plumb their house, pick up their trash, & keep their electricity on? Not everyone was meant for college.

When you see that in one school follow up 15% of the PH.Ds had janitorial type jobs,it makes you wonder if they are teaching the right things. The answer is of course they are not but there is no check and balance systems for these burned out academics. It's no longer a case if you have a college degree it what you have a degree in. It used to be a a mark of intelligence for a future employer but we watered that one down to oblivion. A degree in the Theory of Greek Sump Bending and many degrees like it now just doom you to Mc.Ds future and a big bank loan. The girl that cleans $hit out of the horse stalls at our farm got a degree in the History of Dance and then went for a business degree. A start would be just to shut the Dept of Education in DC - done - over - and hire that Chinese lady (whose name escapes me) ex of the DC schools to run the education system. Pay her $10MM a year and give her war powers - it will be worth it. No child left behind is a great idea but some kids are just too dumb and hold the system back. We change now or learn to speak Chinese and with the current morons in charge I have started Mandarin.

The trouble is it makes too much sense and will never happen. The half educated airheads in charge have no clue and will always be three steps behind what is needed.

Engine Charley Wilson raised a lot of ire when he stated "what's good for GM is good for the country". It conflicted too much with socialist dogma and a half century later we see what happened to GM. The forces of envy, greed, and sloth have won out and they won't go quietly.

I don't see that happening as long as a glib tongue is more important than actually knowing something.

Head start is an interesting program born out of stupidity again. Here is a video of my grand kids listening to Korn and getting a head start to a eventual degree in the History of Backup Chick Singers which will be a Harvard offering soon.

It might work. Lots of infrastructure is already gone.

I was about the last machining class to go through the local community college. After that, enrollment fell so low, they cancelled the program, sold all the machines and converted the shop to administrative offices.

That's never coming back.

I know CT just invested around $14 million into the local community colleges to start a CNC programming curriculum. But there again, I'm getting offered $14-$16/hr with 20 years experience and an associates degree so what is a new graduate going to get?

If I could do it all over again, I'd look into pharmacy school. They can't outsource death and sickness and those cats make six figures!

I can see schools going to that for insurance reasons. I however dont think its a good route because the numerical control programs are changing faster than operating systems do. As soon as schools get a machine it will be out dated and what they teach wont be of any help to the kids that do enter the manufacturing industry. And these machines cheat students out of learning how to make parts, fit them together, and improving on your designs.

My wife, Registered Dental Hygienist, has secure work. It doesn't pay in the top nor even in the middle of her field but she likes it...most times. Now she's looking at working for the state of N.Y., in a prison setting.

Now I know about the state welfare that she's looking at..and she knows it too, however she'd like to retire someday and travel.

In looking around for new positions it's become apparent that any new hires in the future had better have their Bachelor's Degree. $40,000 f'n dollars that she actually considered!! :x When I asked if she thought she could get a pay raise to come out at least even she said "no". It's a no-starter issue now.

It really pisses me off that the whole bunch of idiots, from teachers to employers, are asking for these degrees. It's like, "I had to pay dearly for my....(I hesitate to use the word education here)....so you should have to be in debt for 20 or so years as well if you'd like a job here."

I'm glad I never went to school I guess. What I have I earned the hard way and enjoy all of it, even if it's only tools that I use daily.
