I was very suprised when I first heard of it, very popular in the villages where heating oil can go for 7.50$ a gallon.

When it comes to the villages, they don't have coal, generaly, and as far as getting coal to the villages it takes about 25 lbs of coal to equal a gallon of Diesel around here, so you get a real shipping problem. Our coal is in Healy, on the road system, where oil is around 4.50$ per gallon.

For comparison sake, 14 lbs. of anthracite is about the equivalent of 1 gallon of #2 heating oil. Looking at it another way, about 1.75 gallons of anthracite equals 1 gallon of #2 heating oil.
