Ya, Im not sure what the underlying story was for Joe getting billions in oil for the poor (I too would take it if it was being offered), but im smart enough to think "something" is afoot here that the public was never being made aware of  Im sure whatever that "something" was/is... the next in line will want it to remain. Hugo was a bad man and bad men dont just give hand outs for free without some reason.

It's Bushes fault.

The vice-president also spoke of a plot against Venezuela, saying he had no doubt that Mr Chavez's cancer, first diagnosed in 2011, had been induced by foul play by Venezuela's enemies - the US promptly rejected the accusations as "absurd

It's the only tool he or Venzuela has for political leverage. The idea is to shame the US.

We are doing this and worse to our citizens, I wonder why they think we are capable of doing this to a mortal enemy? The VP, like our slimebuckets, is using it for political advantage and he doesn't care about the truth, nor do the potential voters. Ah, the joys of democracy. My position, I don't care one way or the other but I am curious about whether there was foul play here as it's easy to do and impossible to trace. The joys of enzyme poisons. So is this a trend? After 3D printing comes 3D chemistry. Peptide sequencing is so easy now. Technology is cool.

What you all seem to forget is the man (from the reactions) seemed to do right by his people. Believe it or not he was re-elected time & again, & most important that is their country & the U.S. has nothing to do with it except suck their oil. We'll see what the new pres. will bring it could just be that American policy & business dealings have something to do with the Gov. attitudes towards America.

I'm courious if the free heating oil will continue, it flows all over town here.
I was very suprised when I first heard of it, very popular in the villages where heating oil can go for 7.50$ a gallon.

I realize that the "free oil", all one one hundred gallons for each applicant per year, is just propaganda to make Chavez look good - or at least not as bad - but with all of the profit that the "American" oil companies make, why couldn't they help out some of our poorest citizens? And that is a shame on them that they won't kick in some oil.

Not all poor people are able to work and make enough money to pay for a full tank of heating oil. My mom is 92 years old and I do what I can, but being on disability with all of my medicine and medical bills I don't have much money to kick in.

So far we've avoided free oil but I don't know how much longer.

Sam, are you serious?? He shut down every newspaper, magazine, TV and radio station that opposed him. He rigged every election. He fomented class warfare while stealing billions for himself. If you are serious then I have a new window into your thinking that I find even more distrurbing than before.

15 cent a gallon gas certainly helps but in the meantime the general economy suffers and since the private sector was kicked out the oil production has dropped dramatically, more accidents, crumbling infrastructure and a top heavy state run oil industry. What happens to Venezuela when the oil runs out?
