D S circulator 1400

Guys any one have experience with the 80000 btu model .This does not have a blower .How does it do in 10 15 degree weather .My sons house i want to help him about 1500 sq. feet .! story near one story 50 miles north of Philadelphia Pa .Average to better insulation newer rep . windows .How is it in fall spring temps .Can you idle it down an not roast your out of the house .How does this circulator thing work .He lives on top of a hill its windy 3 seasons of the year honestly .All replies are much appreciated please your input .I dont think he needs anything bigger .thanks . jack Den034071

I have a DS 1400 circulator stove.My house is 1400 sq ft.And it is more than enough stove for my house.I can get it to idle down around 150-175 degrees.I have a window open, that is close to the stove, anywhere from 1 inch to all the way open all heating season.I burn bit coal in mine and it doesn't have the hopper in it.I burn a little wood in the fall and spring.
I get good 12 hour burn times in colder weather.10-15 degrees and windy weather and it isn't even working hard to keep up.I have never had to run it past 4 1/2 on the thermostat even in below zero weather and i do get wind.
To tell you the truth I wish I would've went with the 1300 circulator instead of the 1400.The 1400 is really to much stove for the my house.Their are tubes that come up through the firebox from the bottom of the stove out the top.They draw the cold air from the floor.As the air comes up through the tubes it gets heated and then exit out the top.The 1400 has 4 tubes per side.The stove requires no fan to move the hot air.I hope this helps you out.

Jack, this is my first season burning a DS 1500. My house is 2250 sf with an additional 1200 sf in the basement. My stove is installed in the basement and heat above stove is collected in a sheet metal hood tied into return side of my heat pump, circulating heat through the house.

I can tell you I'm having very good success, with a moderately drafting chimney, so far this spring. Keeping thermostat on stove set at 2.5 gives stove top temps around the 350 range so far and that's good enough to keep the heat moderated throughout the house on the couple 60ish days we've had. Other posters here have set at 2 with good results. So with the smaller stove I think you'll find the temps can be adequately controlled in spring/fall.
