The great Ethanol Scam

Are we the taxpayers still on the hook for 40 cents on every gallon of ethanol produced? Based on this my guess is that gasoline taxes will need to rise by as much as 5 cents on the dollar in conjunction with the 50% increase in ethanol in our gasoline.

Just another example of the lunacy alive and well in the government...

This whole thing is no more than another farm subsidy . If you want ridiculous start looking at some of those. They have been in place for 40/50 yrs. Big oil pales in comparison...... I didnt read the article but in 1976 I did a paper on ethanol as a motor fuel. I was a freshman engineer and our group figured out pretty quickly that the energy in was greater than the energy out, hence the subsidy. The only viable alternative I see for this country might be algae oil . Bottom line is that we need to move toward the 100mi economy, and get rid of all the trucking and shipping .

Ouch... what about rebuilding the rail? how about domestic fuel production and infrastructure with natural gas, reduce trucking i would agree but eliminating it would kill millions of jobs.

I am alittle suprised that the article made absolutely no mention of the affect mandated ethanol utilization has had on the price of (essentially all ) groceries.
50% more ethanol would be catostrophic....IMO

Everything in that article I've been screaming about for years.

When they mandate 15%, get ready for 25 -30% leaving you stranded on the side of the road. I guess the gov't figures more tows + more repairs = more tax revenue ???

What times we live in ....
