That's a sap house. Making maple syrup. They probably use pine
for more heat output. All bets are off when it comes to cooking sap.

Correct you are mate! I followed the smoke and had to investigate  ... met the owner, had some shots and got a full tour of this great place! This happened to be on my way back from Beamerboys house and made for a great day for me. A little scary because all the dudes around this property and buildings were like hells angels or something  , but they were so nice to me and after hanging out for while I could tell they were good folk ;)

I did some camping along the Mohawk trail on rt. 2 in Charlemont, ma. a beautiful part of the world and on sunday morning, my sis, bro-in-law, and I would take a ride not far from the campground to a barn type restaurant/ sugar shack and have pancakes with " the best maple syrup in the world "....so there is nothing like fresh off the tree syrup. mmm mmm good!

It is a common mistake, and one the environmentalists often do when looking at a paper mill. They see all the STEAM coming off from the evaporation process and immediately consider it to be smoke and smog. I would look at the photo they were trying to depict as bad for the environment, and despite the acres of steam rising off the wet end of the paper mill, all I would see is a little wisp of white smoke rising from the boiler stack.

Move along environmental whackos...they is nothing to see here!

I have to say. Sweet Sues Sugar Shack make the best maple syrup in the area, and their maple cream is awesome.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have known Joe and his sister literally their whole lives. They are the second generation to make syrup there. Their father was a good friend until the "big c" took him. And some of those "Big dudes" helped me carry in my Saey Stove when I got it. That day they were helping bring the sap when I stopped in to show off my "new" stove and they came right over to bring the stove into my house.

Im pretty adaptable to all people... Ive worked with the Outlaws in Brockton to Police officers to Asains and just about everyone else imaginable and by in large the fact is... people are people and if respectful, kind and fun is given.... its always returned 10 fold to you :bighug: (that's not to say some folks are not darn big and darn scary looking to some... but even they can be wonderful, caring, kind and fun folks to know).
