Stockton Anthrasite

My local supplier offered me this "new" coal, for $8 a bag. I've been buying "Santa" coal, and was wondering if anyone here has heard any bennies of this brand?
the supplier says the btus are rated 13,500-13,100, and the ash is 8.5-12%. I haven't researched the Blaschak brand yet for comparison.

Stockton is decent coal, probably nearly the quality of Blashak, still not as good as others

Most recent lab results on the Blaschak rice was 13,545 BTU and ash around 8.22%

been burnin stockton all winter kept me warm...white ash..no clinkers..12 hr burns no problem....wish it would be a little cleaner...would like to try lehigh...

Well that is quite impressive! That is a huge change from what I used to get from you guys. Your coal was always super clean but was giving me close to 14% in ash a couple of years ago. What is your price for balk picked up at the mine?

If you call 570-773-2113 they will provide you with an up to date price on bulk pickup at our Mahanoy City breaker. I don't want to step on any of our dealer's toes by noting our pricing on here.

Wouldn't you know it. About a week or two ago, I came home from work, and the wife was complaining the furnace wouldn't come on. It was the Thursday B4 good Friday, and the nites were to be in the 20s. There was no way she was going to be cold. I hit the reset button on the burner, but the box just hummed, then quit talking. after trying a couple times, I began the process of putting priorities in order of how to attack this dilemma. One of them was to possibly refire the coal stove for the long weekend, till I could acquire some potential or necessary parts. I really was against this because #1, I just totally cleaned the stove for the season, and #2, I was out of Santa coal. And it wasn't available for days. Long story short, I checked the burner one last time, and not only was there a big red reset button on this electronic box, but I also just noticed the motor itself had a small red reset. Once I hit that, the furnace came to life, and all was good again.(I know, what caused the trip?).
Even tho the furnace is now up and running, I decided to hit my local supplier for a small "reserve emergency" stash of pea for just in case situations such as above.
I decided to give this Stockton brand a try, even tho the season is done.I picked up 4 bags, which is actually 200lbs cause each bag is 50lbs, and not 40, like the Santa coal. That's why the price went from $6-6.50 a bag to 8 something. I haven't tried it yet, but will keep you guys posted of the results.

My dealer gets his Mammoth I'm not sure It's the same as Stockton(I do remember him saying it was)from Coal Contractors,I got 1000# from him last month and it burned real good with a lot of heat and low % of white ash,nice coal.Keepaeyeonit

Been away awhile, but the season is approaching, so it's time for me to get re-acclimated with winter demands. My supply of "black gold nuggets", needs to be restocked, and I haven't decided to take the chance on this Stockton brand that's available. Once the temps get a little colder in the daytime highs, maybe I'll try this stuff out for a week or 2, and see how it performs. Hoping for either longer burn times due to less ash, or maybe more heat? ( heat wasn't my problem last season) Price "was" approx. the same.

My delivery guy got mine from Stockton. He said its white ash too. I got 6 tons of nut size from him. I didn't see any fines in it. Can't wait to try it

I just totally cleaned my EFM and refired it with Stockton rice. There is a huge column of blue flames coming off the fire and slamming into the top of the boiler. Looks like a good start to the heating season.

This stuff has got to be more aggressive guys. I mean look at the logos. you're talking Santa vs. a black panther. Who would you put your money on?

Ok people, the little stove is cranking, 1st time this season, and I've been burning Stockton pea, for about 12 hrs now. I've gone through roughly 40lbs or so, but some trial and error thru start-up. All is settled in, I just filled the hopper, and am heading up stairs for some shuteye. I haven't tended too much to the stove today, and the stuff seems to be burning fine. Ash pan is barely 1/2 full, so we'll see how she looks in the AM. Out for now. (Not the fire...just me)

My white ash Stockton coal is burning beautifully. Much faster recovery times than the fine saturated red ash I had last year. Like Rob, nice tower of blues off the top. This stuff is awesome.

So here it is, almost 6 hrs later, and woke up to a warm hallway. Went downstairs to view a beautiful fire still burning. I know, it's only the 1st day, and my stove is still relatively clean, and time will tell. But it "is" a good sign. My ashpan still had plenty of room in it. The hopper was down to about 1/4-1/3 full, and the coal bed had very little ash build-up along the edges. So far, I'm liking this stuff. I've got a few more bags to burn through the weekend, so I'll keep you guys posted.
