Hey....I like the groveling!!! (just kidding here!!)
Now can we continue this with a little mutual respect? (not respect for our opinions but just respect that we are both good Americans trying to do what we think is best for our country)

Now you got me thinking of old DEA war stories. (this is the point at which my wife & kids suddenly remember a very important chore they had to do.....& hustle out of the room!)
DEA had just been formed when I started with them in 1974. Nixon had started a brand new agency to fight drugs comprised of: agents from the old BNDD (Bureau of Narcotics & Dangaerous Drugs), Customs agents & a few other agencies that spent most of their time following eachother around, thinking that the other guy was a drug dealer.
When DEA was formed, noone ever heard anyone yell: "DEA-----You're under arrest!" (Noone would have known what the hell DEA was! We were trained to yell: "Federal Agent...You're under arrest!"...Then at least they thought you were FBI.

Now DEA has a very nice training facility next to the FBI Academy in the Marine Base at Quantico, VA. When I started, our training facility was an old converted bank building in Northwest Washington, DC & agent trainees were housed at the Ramamda Inn, in NW Washington & had to walk to classes every day.
Boy could I tell you stories......but I see that everyone's already asleep so I wont bore you further!!
Seriously, I have some funny stories but it is getting late so you're all off the hook for now.

Glad we got things ironed out BugsyR.

LOL....Kinda like the boat scene in JAWS when Brody, Quint & Hooper are getting a little drunk after dinner, comparing scars & Quint says...."Wanna drink to our scars?"
The real question is...which one of us has the USS Indianapolis scar?

Now that we have things ironed out I would really like to try to communicate here. Being (admittedly) a Massachusetts liberal in pretty much conservative territory, I am trying to understand the other side of the argument. So, hopefully keeping things civil, would someone please describe their perception of what we are doing in Iraq right now & why it is in our vital interests to stay there?
The way I see it, without going into the arguments about should we have ever gone there to begin with, with Saddam Hussein & his sons dead & a freely elected government in place in Iraq, I percieve what we are doing in Iraq now is an occupation that is costing us money that we desparately need here in the US, is stretching our armed forces to the breaking point & making us less safe in the world by creating more anti-American sentiment (& thus terrorists). (I beleive the many reports that say the Iraqi people do not want us there & a majority of them say it is ok to kill Americans & I dont believe this administration when they claim that we are mainly fighting Al Quida in Iraq......I think that is a total fabrication to make us think we are fighting our true enemy who are in Afganistan & the tribal areas of Pakistan................but I don't want to get sidetracked here. Even if they (Iraqi people) want us to stay, I dont think we can afford too......It's time for them to stand up for themselves)
Why am I misguided?

It isn't much different than WWII (at least then you could tell who the enemy was), there are two worlds now, ours and theirs (extremists). Which one do you prefer to live in?

I only think you have to go back two decades to answer that question and look what happened in Afghanistan. Soviets left, US left, World left... Taliban and Al-Queda moved in . If we leave there now, chances are that country will descend into chaos and anarchy much worse that it is now. I mentioned it many posts back, whether it was good or bad decision to go there won't be written for another 20 or 30 years. This is a golden opportunity to get a Democratic government in the heart of the Islamic countries, hopefully one that will breed peace throughout the Middle East in due time. I think it would be a waste to blow it, especially after all the blood that's been shed up until this point.

I think the Iraqi government still wants us there IIRC. This wasn't a go it alone venture, almost every moderate arab state in the region begged us to go in. Once the war was won, the terrorists showed up because they had been run out of Afganistan. These morons want you, your children and parents dead. If you find that acceptable, you will live (maybe) with the consequences.
