:rambo3:

I'm very amused that you consider being referred to as a "liberal" to be name calling. You can call me a conservative all day long and you won't hurt my feelings.

Someone famous, I think Churchill, said "if you aren't liberal when you are young, you have no heart and if you aren't conservative when you are old, you have no brain. "

As far as "Liberal hypocracy", what do you call this:
1. Idaho Senator Larry Craig (the anti-gay activiist) trying to pick up men in a cheap men's room
2. Vietnam "Hero" (7 deferments) & all around sportsman & hunter Dick Cheney practicaly blowing the head off his hunting buddy with a shotgun.....& then hiding out for a day to sober up before talking with anyone about it. ( & Ted Kennedy is an evil man?? for driving off a bridge drunk??)[/quote]

I think Larry Craig should be kicked out of the senate! Then he can move to Mass where he can legally marry his bathroom buddy.

At least Cheney didn't leave him in the bushes to die like Teddy left that poor misguided girl in the water to die.

Good point, and a reference to why we are all here, political opinions aside.
Even though I disagree with someone's opinions here (because I know I'm right :)) doesn't mean I don't like them, that's one of the great freedoms of the USA, to be able to disagree and speak out about it, and not have to worry about being jailed or just disappearing one day. Remember that these radical Muslims want to kill each and every one of us, their belief is that every person who doesn't believe what they believe should be killed. That's the real threat to all of us. They hate all of us, our way of life, everything. That's what we are fighting for.

You must be kidding right, since when is that name calling, you and PB are Liberals, where is that a deriding? Now you want to play Victim ? C'mon now.

On a differnt thread you accused me of trying to "Belittle" you by pointing out your lack of government service, but it is you who is doing all the "belittling"
If you are searching for hypocracy, look no further.
Wow, so in other words you can have a only have a debate if you get to do all the bashing, so it's your ball and now you want to go home?

As far as "Liberal hypocracy", what do you call this:

Right and the Republicans ask that he step down, in your "camp" (can I say that without hurting your feelings) you give a guy running a Gay whore house a prime chairmanship. See the difference? Don't forget, anything he did according to the Democrats is not considered Sex anyways, so what's your issue?

2. Vietnam "Hero" (7 deferments) & all around sportsman & hunter Dick Cheney practicaly blowing the head off his hunting buddy with a shotgun.....& then hiding out for a day to sober up before talking with anyone about it. ( & Ted Kennedy is an evil man?? for driving off a bridge drunk??)

Please, "blow his head off" ? You really know your firearms. The bird shot used is hardly going to Blow anyones head off, it peppered the guy good though, stop with the drama, it doesn't help your argument. You have no proof he was drinking so for you to say so as fact is wrong. As far Deferments are concerned they were wide spread in the time of the draft, I'll bet you'll find many Liberal captains of industry and in Government that recieved them as well. Where was Slick Willy? oh that's right he was in England, Not inhaling. C'mon now i lnow it's hard for you but lets try to be fair.

Finally.... Teddy DID kill someone, and you actually failed to mention that in your POST! A young woman drowned as a car sunk to the depths, teddy ran away and let her die, An entire family was changed forever by Teddy's action and YOU gloss over it, sorry but that's just despicable.

Well said John, I agree. I enjoy a nice lively debate but there is no reason to let it desolve into name calling & mud slinging! (let's leave that up to the real professionals....politiicians!)
I think we all find it more fun to help others overcome coal stove problems that we may have experienced oursleves, & to share our experience & gain new insights. (I for one, have been burning my TLC-2000 inefficiently for three years...until I was convinced by fellow board members to try using a blower fan & that has made our home much more comfortable & saved me $$$$ this year. That is why we are all here!
(Well that & to hear John think he is right, when we all know that I am the one who is correct!!)

During the first three months of 2007, when bogus massacres made headlines, Iraq made up 22 percent of the news, according to the Project for Excellence in Journalism. As the surge began working, it dropped to 16 percent, then less than 3 percent in the last three months when violence dropped dramatically. The Denver Post reported that network coverage of Iraq dropped from 45 minutes a week to 16 minutes.

Yea I agree. My best friend is a tree hugging, global warming monger, dyed in the wool liberal. We have very "enthusiastic" discussions about the topics that have been covered here and many more to boot. When it's over we drink a beer and forget about it. I wouldn't want any of my children to marry one though.

Well, I think the way the word "liberal" is getting tossed around it's intended as an insult. I'm sure we could come up with other words that some people find innocuous and some mean as insults.
And the difference between "A joint resolution to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq" and a war is the difference between rallying the citizens of the country to grow victory gardens and sacrifice personal liberties for the good of the country, and "Keep shopping, travel with your family, go to the mall. Our American lifestyle will go on."
For the record, I've never voted for a Democrat. Haven't voted for a republican since ... 96 (first time to pull the lever).
Speaking of semantics... I have a problem with the use of the word "conservative" as it is applied to current political affiliations. To conserve is to use a resource wisely. To plan for the future. To be responsible. It seems that "conservative" is being applied to extreme religious agendas and corporate slanted media reports.
The idea of a "liberal bias" in the news media makes me laugh. When the biggest news between November and January is how well the retail market is doing... or how the stocks are doing... or which corporation is merging/suing/buying/selling whatever.
The only time you hear about real people is when they get trapped in a mine or stand in a long line to buy some new shiny thing.
I respect everyone else's right to worship, vote, shop, fornicate... just keep it outta my ass and we'll be fine.

I should note I don't think it's some grand liberal conspiracy in the media, instead it's because death and violence that sells. Just wish they would pay more attention to some of the good things.

This is/was a featured picture on wikipedia.

Franco-Prussian War discussion

"Discussing the War in a Paris Café" from the Illustrated London News of 17 September 1870: A scene from the Franco-Prussian War. The Napoleonic empire had ended a few days before this when Napoleon III was captured in the Battle of Sedan and deposed by the French government soon thereafter. However, the proposed German peace treaty was rejected, and two days after this image was published, Paris came under siege.

At least people have had different opinions on wars for a while.
