March 2013 coal consumption

March 2013 coal consumption

PostBy: lsayre On: Sat Mar 23, 2013 6:48 am

I'm currently projecting 1,540 lbs. of coal burned this March vs. 996 lbs. last March. 55% more. The groundhog has let me down big time.

edited to correct spelling.

I've been going thru about 400 pounds per week this month. Last March I shut down for two weeks with that warm spell we had!

It's going to end up being close to a full 20 degrees colder per day here this March vs. last March. We will end the month at close to 5 degrees below the long term average for a normal March.

I tend to stay on average 1200 lbs per month ( 30 day figuring )no matter what the temps do--it's about having figured out the bi-metallic thermo on the old HITZER--some days 30 lbs some 50 lbs, but it all averages out the same. When warmer temps sets in I'll drop down to 20 lbs per--again----bi-metallic thermo--outstanding contraption Dean ;)

I just topped off and my actual March coal consumption came in at 1,466 lbs. That's 75 lbs. below my mid month projection. We had a few warm days toward the end of the month that helped out. March will end here at a mean temp overall of 33.5 degrees, vs. 37.0 for a normal March, or 3.5 degrees below normal.

1.50 lbs. burned per degree day for March.
7,931 lbs. burned overall since firing it up on September 29th. 4 tons.

put the coal in, tke the ash out......put the coal in, take the ash out...... still better than buying oil. over all so far since october, burned 5.5 tons coal give or take a quarter or so. If weather does break soon, hope to shut done by mid april or so.
