?? is why worry about it now? food/non food plants have been continually in a gmo proccess since the 50's. we all have been eating them for years.

There is a little difference between cross breeding plants or animals to produce a variety with a desired trait and working at the DNA level to make a plant that produces it's own insecticide or has resistance to powerful herbicides.

You can practically water these things with Round Up and it doesn't affect them.

I see jpete already replied to this but I have the same thoughts when you have something that can be sprayed with roundup and not die its not normal. I have no problem with them putting two species of plants near each other to make a better breed, but when you start tinkering with nature at the DNA level nothing good will come from it

My biggest concern is that there will come a day when no one will be able to retain seeds for re-planting due to patent violations in so doing. Also, as I said, no field will be found to not have Monsanto genetic material, so no farm will be free from lawsuits and confiscation. You can't beat these multi-billion dollar behemoths in court (without jury nullification of the law, that is).

isayre i understand you concern, however non GMO seed can be found at every seed supplyer. Farmers choose to use roundup ready grain cause its just about idiot proof, its hard to screw up and killl most of a field. Its not abnormal to have somthing not die when round up it put on it, try to kill poison hemlock with it and i bet it wont die. Same goes for 2,4,D it will kill everything but grasses,

I don't have as much problem with the work of seed as I do with the freedom from being liable, there are seeds kept furtile but if there is nothing being done wrong then there should be no need for protection. The bad part about some of the present seed is that it is inadvertantly killing bees or at least thought to bee.

The issue is when a Monsanto plant cross pollinates with a non GMO variety, Monsanto comes in, sue the farmer for "copyright infringement" and puts him out of business.

This gets everyone in line.

Sort of like the Mob used to collect protection money. If you didn't pay, maybe your store burns down. Anyone else thinking of not paying quickly realizes the value of "protection".
