It sounds like you are pretty happy with the stove otherwise, and that's the main thing. Not that you want to take it apart and put it back together right away, but it's not a terrible job. Sometimes the order they go back together in isn't obvious, but you'll get it figured out. Good luck with it now, Earl. It's a nice looking stove!

Fortunately, the ash was nice and dry. There was no corrosion or rust at all so I guess I should be thankful for that! I did find the fiberglass insulation that a mouse did put in there but no mouse mummy's. It seems to be air tight so The seams appear to be cemented. I just don't know how much was actually done so I will probably tear it apart next year. I have too much going on with the house this year to attempt it now. It seems to be operating just fine so I will clean it out and put a light bulb in it for the summer.

I finished the coal bin today, now I can order next years coal. It is $10.00 a ton cheaper in the summer than in the fall/winter so I will order it soon. I think it will hold 5 tons and I have a smaller bin outside for overflow if it doesn't.

The stove has been shut down for almost 2 weeks now and all cleaned up. Pretty 40w red bulb in it for the summer. I put a dish pan full of kitty litter in the ash pan as well to absorb moisture. I use that for winter storage of my camper and have not had any mold issues since I started using it. I use to have condensation on the windows and then mold would grow on them.

Kitty litter, good idea.

I use wood pellets for kitty litter, wonder if they would work as well -- sure cheaper than those tubs of DampRid Calcium Chloride.

I am sure the wood pellets would absorb some moisture but I don't think as much as the kitty litter...that is made to absorb moisture.

HA...finally a good use for those stupid pressed pellets that swell up like ballons if a drop of water hits them

We have been using wood pellets as kitty litter for a couple years. MUCH cheaper than standard kitty litter. I got the idea when we used some "yesterday's news" kitty litter which is similar pellets made from newsprint. The farm-supply place, where I buy them year round, says I'm not the only one to do this, and that people also use them for horse bedding. The higher-quality wood pellets seem to make less dust but the lower-quality ones are more quickly absorbent.

Hey, if they work, great...I have never used the pellets so not familiar with them. I just buy the cheap kitty litter because I throw it out after use.( I don't have cat)

Ok, this new weather pattern sucks, the next four days is cold...Monday & Tuesday, chance of frost. Even though the stove was all cleaned out and ready for the summer, I started a fire again. I had an electric heater running all day and I hated that! (Even though I work for the electric Company!)

5 tons of nut coal delivered and in the bin. Looks like I did a good job on the bin, no bowing at all anywhere. With the wet spring/summer this year, I am not sure if I will get all the painting and construction done outside. Wanted to get more work done on the hearth area for the Kineo this year. but looks like that will have to wait until next year. I may be retiring this year and if I do, will have more time to work on the hearth.

Also, and update about Bryant Stove issue from earlier in this post. I ordered a set of coal grates for my cook stove and they gave them to me for nothing to make up for the problems with the stove. I wanted to pass that information along because it is important that everyone know they did make it up to me. I also had them cast another set from the originals and they gave me a good deal on those as well.

I know, I am slipping, I have not even taken any photos of the stove for you yet. :whip: I wanted to wait until I got the new hearth area done but I think I had better take them with the first fire this fall.
