Alaska Stoker won't light

Older Alaska Stoker, friend has been using it for 20+ years, suddenly it won't stay lit. Any ideas? I'm headed to look at it tonight. I have a Harman, but never worked on an Alaska.

Start by checking the draft and of course make sure the combustion blower is running.

Clean out under the grate, an accumulation of fines will block the airflow and keep it from burning.
If it was truely 'sudden' then I'd say a combustion fan motor died? or is clogged with a dead cat?

Sudden...could be cause he's getting to the bottom of the coal supply for the season. [lots of fines]
Like Greg said, clean under grate, air flow will be messed up due to accumulated fines.
Can happen again, so might have to screen out those fines.
