Well I did    no idea how it happened but im guessing one of the kids

anyways... after a long research battle I finally learned the computer has to be reset to a previous date and the only way to achieve that is by getting to the reset screen by pressing f8 many times while you restart and then choosing safe mode with command prompt. I almost brought the machine in to a shop and paid the $150.00 for the repair so thank god I was able to fix it :P

I've had one virus infect one of my machines that I'm aware of in the last 15 years. That's the result of diligence in keeping stuff up to date, being careful, having a little more knowledge than the average user and some luck. That particular virus showed just after letting my old GF's daughter use my machine. Wasn't her fault necessarily, she was really young at the time. I haven't let any kids near my computers since.

New rules in my house now only allow for homework to be done on that particular machine, Ive seen alot of pop up things and such over the years but this particular virus was an aggressive lil' bastard that took me an hour of research to finally remove

The file is still there...
Resetting the date is not a fix...
Rolling back is not a fix...
been fixing them for a while now...
One customer called the Boston FBI office...

Usually when this happens I take it out back and shoot the hell out of it, then go buy a new computer. Works every time. :D

I believe that Malwarebytes has a free trail period, I had some trouble a while back & the nice Indian lady put it on mine, it's been quite awhile & it's still doing scans but hasn't prompted me to buy yet.

Always works for me too John. But then again, I'm not stupid enough to be fooled into thinking that all this cyber crap is secure no matter what kind of anti this & that programs you install/get ripped off for ;)

I just gave my son my old computer which I built two years ago. It had never seen a virus until I gave it to him. The day after I gave it to him he calls me up at work to tell me the computer is telling him it has a virus. When I got home, cleaned the virus off then checked his search history. You don't want to know what he was looking at. He was told the next virus he gets the internet will be removed from it.

I used to use Norton, but when it expired I started using the free trial ant malwares that were available. Big mistake! I got hit with this twice on two different computers. I tried Hitman, malwarebytes, Spybot, AVG, destroyer, watched Youtube videos and searched the web. None of them worked. Thank God I still had access to Norton with an old access code. NORTON worked both times! Since then, I buy Norton to cover all my computers.

I got hit with the FBI bug awhile back.I have everything important mirrored on an external hd.I just reformat my hd and reinstall windows.Works perfectly.Yes it's a pain, but it's also foolproof.I just hate all the windows updates that pop up for the next day  .I've done it enough over the years on mine and others that it's second nature toothy .
