Mainly grilling and barbecue. I doubt that I would ever use it enough to justify something in the $900 to $1,300 (or higher) range, but I do think these are the Cadillacs of the industry, and sometimes you get what you pay for.

Indeed! That's why the Weber SMC recommendation. There are many CASs out there. I tried a few. Don't bother with them. The Weber SMC is the cadillac of the steel bullet smokers. For bbq-ing, it's pretty much hands free for hours, just like the expen$ive ceramic cookers are too. A CAS will keep you really busy. Been there, ain't goin' back 8-)

For fifty bucks you can buy a charbroil smoker. It looks like r2-d2 and it has a bright red enamel finish, they also come in black, and works the ball. It has a water pan that sits above the coal bed in which you can try many different liquids, one of my favorites is apple juice or cider. The liquid is also your built in thermometer and keeps the unit @ 200*-220*. I smoked a turkey this past thankgiving and it was the best turkey EVAAHH!!!

One of my perks is I get to go to the HPBA shows. I eat very well I usually like to get our burn area close as possible to the grills. :D
