Had to light the stoker today 5/12/2013

PostBy: IH8JEEP On: Sun May 12, 2013 9:14 pm

Had to light the stoker today. House reading 67.5 and wifey said "hon you cold". Thats my If you know whats good for you will light the stove speech :D I had been running up till last week and cut it off. This is normal for me I run the stove from early Oct. till around mothers day. Old house, single pane windows, doggie door always flapping. I'm not complaining just happy my 20+ year old Alaska stoker has been heating our house 100% for all those years cheaply and never had to go without heat because of a breakdown.

25 year old bought used Alaska stoker with furnace jackets-------$500 dollars
4 ton of rice coal + fuel pickup costs----------------------------------$700 dollars
Thinking about all the work burning wood or money on oil heat----PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!

IHJ, your wife wouldn't like this place too much. We wake up with the house at 56° this time of year. I refuse to burn money when it's spring. Bad enough I have to do it in WINTER!

If prices keep going up, I'll be collecting trash again ...... only in my neighborhood ...... to burn in my house for heat! toothy

Glad we held off on planting. Frost warning for tonight!  Damn weather ...

AnthraKing just barely cruisin', love that stove. Coal Trol and Powervents are best during shoulder seasons and that appears to be 4 months of the year right now. I wanted to try my new Peninsular stove but it's not quite sealed yet as in there is no chimney connected and the doors off are having new mica fitted. Gretel 2 (the Jotul 507) is asleep until Sept.

Hey Eugene why not light up the Roaring Ringgold what's takin' ya so long on that restore. :)

My hi tech Tracfone did not give me any warning of the frost but then I noticed the string had broken on the cocoa tin.

I raised the thermostat a few degrees first thing this morning and woke the EFM up. Last Saturday it was as humid as hell and I had windows open.

Hit 36° last night, but that sensor is up on the roof, so maybe we had a frost last night? Pretty close anyway.

My house went from 71° last night to 62° this morning.

I had frost last night,, probably got down to 28-29*.. the frost on the windshield of the car needed a scrape.. I backed it up into the sunshine instead..

I haven't shut down the AA yet, I did stop heating the floor of the shop,, and that reduced the coal use to 1 or 2 buckets of coal a day.. all for DHW, until the last few nights that is !

Supposed to get back to 80* later this week,, maybe I'll plant the garden then?

not sure when I'll give up on coal heate DHW this year.. Propane is at $1.79 a gallon.. just about a toss up for costs with coal..
