Red Garnett 48

So on the left we have the Red Garnett 48 that I will be reporting on this stove will be for decoration only. The fire is a LED BOB Chauvet - very realistic but just a light system, I love it. On the right, asleep right now, is the Jotul 507B and this will do all the heavy lifting. Yep it's the quiet ones that do the work.

These 2 stoves will keep you warm all Summer long

That looks very much like my 28, I wounder what the exact difference is? hmmm?

Why are you not going to burn in it?

What all did you do to restore it?

Well one thing I can tell you my friend is that I only have a 16" firepot and if so yours is 20" then mine is a feeble baby. Perhaps the numbers got bigger as the stoves got weaker. Give me two weeks and I will post the finished item as long as not more than 20 things around here go horribly wrong (10 a week is my average). I love this stove but I really do not have a great room to fire it up. BBBUUUMMMMEEEERRRR. However, even it means burning the house down I am determined to try. I even have plans to pipe CH upstairs by connecting the double heater vent, that was another 100 year old trick I saw photos of.

Yeah I was sorta wondering about the size of my stove verse the size of my 1400sqf house. But I do have a forced air furnace that can just circulate the air through the whole house including my semi-finished basement. So I could heat the whole 2800 square foot. The house I found her in was a good 4000 sqft, not sure if that is where she lived back in her day though.

I was woundering If maybe I could use it only when it is really cold and the furnace at milder temps. Or just use her as a wood burner?

I can promise you one thing, I don't know where you live but a stove (please complete your profile) with a 20" firepot can heat 2800' as long as the heat can reach all the areas. My smaller stove (16") heated a house in Rochester that I never saw but was told it was about 2500'. Made in Rochester and lived in Rochester all it's life and working every winter since right up to 2011 - kinda cute. Barbera Cuomo, the ex-owner, swears that her mother used it for 65 years and the house was owned by her dad. It was obviously well serviced (but not restored) and prepared for the next heating season. Barbera got NG so it was made redundant. If only these stoves could talk. Nut coal of course as mine has a chute(hopper) does yours? If not I am sure it would eat stove sized just fine perhaps even egg. Are you measuring the firepot from the inside.... 20" WOW, how deep is it.

Ya know newbie, after I clean the layer of ash of my fire pot mine may be a 16 too! that would leave some questions to be answered, hmm?

Firstly, Marylyn was not sexy up my wife was not sitting next to me I could give you a list of who is but let's move on. The middle door is just for wood in fact some posters firebrick it over. The ash gate is circular and you insert a handle and turn to remove ash. Lastly, have you taken your medication this morning. Stoves are like tractors you can never have too many. That is enough in this thread.

Yes, she be a driver now. Sealed all the leaks smoky newspaper test and did a matchlight burn yesterday and I had to reseal a door or two. Could not afford a Nortcan type finish so it got the poor horsefarmers treatment. Two cans of Rustoleum hammered on the top ($20), a few light coats. Used a little black paint for relief. High temp engine block silver on the bottom ($7). The center nameplate was savable with the worx treatment. All she needs now is cold weather and nut coal. If my lottery comes in then the full nickel treatment but she has to work for her money first - this is not Obamacare.

... and how could I forget, a metal baking tin for an ashpan although I am supposed to be having one made. FF will be proud of me.

How exactly do you seal your doors? Im going to have to seal all mine, did you use a "fire rope material" If so what do you use to adhear it to the door?

Hi Beaker, the doors will fit air tight as long as they are not warped, the old timers built them right. The door catches get loose but they can be adjusted with care. You can use BlackUltra to seal the side doors that you will rarely use if you like.
