Just switched to Firefox, and can't get spell check to work

Just switched to Firefox, and can't get spell check to work

PostBy: lsayre On: Sat May 25, 2013 5:41 am

I use the Linux operating system, and I've been running Opera as my web browser until I finally tried Firefox yesterday. When typing to this forum (as I'm doing now) in Opera if I miss-spelled a word it would have a squiggly red line under it, but the same feature is not happening for Firefox, even though when I "right click" I see the check mark beside "spell check", indicating that it is turned on. Any suggestions on how to make spell check work with this forum for Firefox? I just checked my Firefox "preferences, advanced" and "check my spelling as I type" is also turned on there (to no avail).

:eek2: You mean their is way to have a spell checker instantly let you know as your typing on the forum that a word may be incorrect? I've been having to google spell check and then copy pasting every post I make  (I use Explorer)
RICHARD... Some instruction please because it would be great to have a spell check right on the forum as im typing :dancing:

I just solved it for Firefox. I had to install English spell checking in Firefox as an "add on" program. Works fine now. I even went back and corrected my spelling error (I miss-spelled Linux, and also forgot the 'I' in 'I've' in the first post, as can be seen in the quote of my post within the second post to this thread).

Why Firefox (at least in Linux) needs an add on when this feature is available for all other applications from the get-go is a mystery to me.

IESpell for IE, not sure why it isn't standard feature. ....or you could just switch to FF.

-------------edit----------

Spellchecker is included in IE10.

I highly recommend FF, switched last year and am still happy I did. Pop-ups are almost a thing of the past entirely...dig it.

Add "NoScript," "Ad-Block Plus," "Element Helper for Ad-Block Plus," and "Do Not Track Me" and you'll be amazed. NoScript takes a little configuring/tuning, but it's well worth it. It's amazing how many scripts run underneath the pages that you're viewing. Most of them may be harmless, but just in case one of them isn't it won't get through.

Keep in mind that A)websites like this one depend on ad revenue so you can use them for free and B)Javascript is becoming very prevalent on many pages for ease of use and other reasons. A simple example of JS in use here is inserting smilies and the BB code.
