Where is the outrage over the NSA?

PostBy: waldo lemieux On: Sun Jun 16, 2013 3:37 pm

What is up with you guys? Is everyone on vacation , or valium , or what? Obama has finally really done something deserving the greatest outrage and nothin'? I realize probably none of us has anything to hide, but that is only by todays rules. What about when it becomes illegal to talk about selling a gun to a buddy or calling the president a jackass or any other laws that get on the books violating your constitutional rights? I see this as an assault on privacy afforded by the Patriot act , What am I missing?

Impeachment should be the proper answer, but with Democrats in the clear majority in the Senate, and with most of the Republicans being either Rino's or Neocons (who revel in what the NSA is doing and clamor for more), that would lead nowhere.

We had our chance to reverse this stuff when Ron Paul ran for President several times, but we laughed at him and his conspiracy theories (which are all coming true).

An aside question is: Where is the outrage at all of our major news media, who have not broken any of the stories that have the potential to make President Obama out to be a Fascist lunatic.

But then again, according to a recent Pew Research polling across all demographics of Americans, the majority in all major political camps actually support the NSA snooping and a plethora of other intrusions, so given that we (err, not me, but apparently a majority of us) "claim to be" a democracy, perhaps we are merely getting what we want.

http://www.people-press.org/2013/06/10/ ... or-tactic/

My hero reporter from primarily the 20's and 30's era had this to say about it:
"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
H. L. Mencken

And this:
“Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.”

Wow, Kim's going to have a girl, that's great.

A bro and a hoe with a baby in tow - big news. Nobody cares about NSA stuff/IRS/Benghastly/FF/DOJ etc.etc.and that is the deadly serious problem. There was outrage for about 15 minutes and now it's over. How many have actually changed to startpage and are dumping google/FB/yahoo etc. - not many. MSM has their own Zionist agenda. Even the NYT is Sulzburgers private Israel pusher. Try reading the anti - NYT as that is closer.

However, the problem is solved as anonymous will now flood the new with trigger phrases until we get bored with that game. The international repercussions however are much greater. Do you really think that that huge Utah building was a secret to anybody else. Oh, you think we were catching Al Qeda with this stuff? They learned to drop hand written messages off in dumpsters years ago. We boast about "increases in chatter" as terror predictors? Geez do we really think that they are that stupid.

One must have their priorities! We're party people now. It's just like the game of musical chairs. Until the music stops no one knows they may wind up losing big time. Only it's worse, since at least in the game you know to watch out for the future potential of losing. In real life USA no matter what is going on in the world or at home (endless money from thin air, NSA, Google glasses, Obamacare, TSA, NDAA, see something say something ([the reason for Google glasses], or whatever) we can't imagine the music ever stopping, so there is no concern for a future gone bad as a consequence.

I guess we seriously have gone soft. Only Hong Kong is marching in the streets over our NSA woes. http://www.freep.com/usatoday/article/2426101

That's right! A communist nation which does not fear marching on our behalf. Has Kim had her baby yet?

Funny, I can recall trying to state how bad the Patriot Act was & what all it could be used for but being good cons no one would listen, the dark years never happened.

Working well for me but I know better than to ask you. Do you really think that if you invent a tool that powerful that no one else is going to use it? There was a window of opportunity & no one said a thing, why is it now unconstitutional after it is a law but it was constitutional before it became one?

at this point we should assume EVERYTHING we say, type, write or trade is recorded somewhere and can be tracked/traced back to us... right or wrong, good or bad that's the world we live in unless your one of those pro computer people who actually code the programs

"Where is the outrage over the NSA?"
No real point in being outraged because nothing will change anyway. We have a majority of people that relies on the gooberment for their existence either through employment or handouts and they are not going to rock the boat. The vast majority of politicians are just fine with the power they have over us minions and are not about to give it up. NSA, IRS running out of control, screw that Jerry Springer is coming on with the sex changed lesbian. Most of the populous doesn't give a rats rear what the elected officials or gooberment agencies do as long as the checks in the mail. Bread and circuses.

Before you get your nuts tied in a knot over the NSA issue first try and understand what they are doing. The press in its sensationalism has used the works spying and snooping too loosely. The NSA program that Snowden had leaked is a traffic analysis type program. It's been classic military methods for over a century. Observe you enemies communication patterns. When you see a lot of communications, there is likely something going to happen. You don't know the message but just that something is up.

As I dig into what's be publicly leaked and what has NSA declassified, NSA is getting are records of all telephone NUMBERS dialed, along with dates, times and call duration. The get both the calling number and the dialed number. Then they put their computers to work to analyze the data. Clearly they have a database of phone numbers, especially of overseas terrorists. Using those known numbers they can find what US numbers are being called. Once the data patterns are sufficiently consistent they then go to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and get an order to tap and record the calls.

I don't think many thought full citizens would have a problem so far. Especially when you consider the following possibility. Cell tower transmissions can be captured by anyone within range. The conversation on modern digital phones are secure, just as the are on modern digital emergency or police radios. What is broadcast in the clear is the phone number. I'm certain this was the case with the analog cell phones and have found no documents to indicate otherwise with today's cell systems. So one could in principle place a receiver at each cell tower and collect the same info NSA gets. It could be done by a for profit company that would sell the data. What good would it be? Well every time you give out your telephone number and personal information for the bonus card at the grocery store your info goes into a database. Just correlate the phone number to your cell phone tower database and bingo they now know who you are. Companies get big bucks for data lists like that.

Let's face it, there is no more true privacy.

Now I do have a problem with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, especially the gag orders where individuals or companies can not even admit to have being served such an order. This needs to change with more public knowledge. When companies are served with a wire tap order, they charge for it. It's fairly expensive, thousand of dollars for the initial charge and duration connection charges continue. Some claim this is a significant source of income for the telecommunication giants. Publicly traded companies have a obligation to their shareholders to be truthful about their finances. If it turns out the income from court orders is not being disclosed they have a problem. This is likely where stockholder suits will arise. Eventually more disclosure will occur.

Unfortunately, the administration has already admitted to using these "patterns" to drone strike people who they admit MAY or may NOT be terrorists.

Do you really trust your government with your life?
