JR, with all this damp & humidity, I'd let it dry for at least a couple days--again, you got the time now.
I fired the stove the other night to test the draft damper (posted elsewhere). The paint around the door is better, but still suspect. It seems like it's pulling back a little, but not like before. I think I'm giving up on touching up the paint for now. We'll just see how it goes in the fall and try again later if it becomes a problem. Lipstick on a pig... a very chubby pig.
I finally broke down and painted it all black with standard rustoleum high heat black stove and bbq paint. The red paint just gathered and showed too much dirt and marks from coal, soot, and just about anything. It's been a couple days now and the black looks great. No issues so far as expected. That oil based stuff just sticks to everything and gets in every nook and cranny. I've yet to see it peel away from the door lip, but time will tell.
