4th of July tragedy in Bangor Maine

PostBy: Freddy On: Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:45 pm

Ohh, gosh, my heart aches. At the Bangor 4th of July parade this morning an odd series of events turned fatal. I may not have all the details correct.... First a crazy man with a gun was shooting and caused a standoff with police. Highly unusual for here. That caused the parade route to be changed to avoid that area. While going down a shallow hill on the new route, an antique fire truck lost it's brakes, or stuck it's throttle, or both, and hit an old John Deere tractor. The driver of the JD was thrown and run over by the tractor, or the truck. Many children witness it.... horror from the crowd. He died at the scene. It ended the parade. Thoughts & prayers for the family. Here's a link to the story:

I suppose... he died doing what he loved. I guess none of us can ask for a better way to go. *sigh* I'd like to imagine that if this hadn't happened he might have had a long slow illness before he passed on & this instant accident saved him from that. Maybe that's not a good way to think.... I dunno.... We gotta settle stuff like this in our heads somehow & go forward.

Very sad. Apparently 4th of July parades are a real hazard. A 7 year old boy was killed in Annapolis MD yesterday when he fell or jumped off of a trailer in the 4th of July parade and was run over. I also heard a very similar thing happened in Oklahoma.

This is probably inappropriate, but, that tractor accident was precisely that---AN ACCIDENT-- my heart goes out to all involved-- those kid related situations come down to plain old "PATHETIC" adult supervision. At least around here, that's what it would be viewed as! Sad, VERY sad :(

Very sad. And you are correct Fred. Sometimes accidents happen and when your number is up not much can be done. My sympathy to all involved.
