Hello All - I've been away from the forum for a little while. I missed Bill's question about my Glenwood Oak 40. Bill - I found it at an antique shop in Walpole NH (near my house) for $800, which I was advised was a good price, by yourself (I know A LOT more about these stoves now). I'm still making lay-away payments on it, so I don't have it yet. When I do get it, I'll post more pictures. It's complete, but un-restored. It has one crummy prismatic grate made out of something steel. Other than that, it's in nice shape!

My incredible news is that I just scored a beautiful Glenwood No.6 Base Heater today, near Burlington VT. The price was modest - $600.

I just unloaded it from the car, and man - they are heavy and solid - what a monster!

Like my Glenwood Oak 40, it's in good, original and un-restored condition. I decided I was going to find one close by and at a good price - I achieved my goal.

Now I need to figure out when I can commit it to Emory (he's doing my Hub Heater No.115 this summer). I'll have to contact him soon. I don't think I can afford a restoration of it this year. I may have to put it on hold and use my City Glenwood 12 for a while this season - time will tell.

I've got to really check it over completely. I will definitely be sending the prismatic grates (the two big ones are bad) and frame to Tomahawk Foundry for recasting. Fortunately, the firepot has been protected by refractory cement, so it's in good shape.

I know what I'm going to be doing in the evenings for as while - watching Bill's videos on his Glenwood No. 6, which will answer a lot of my questions - good work Bill!

Here's my current list of stoves - I've gotten them all this year - lots of running around!

Glenwood Oak 40
Glenwood No.6 BH (1909)
City Glenwood 16
City Glenwood 12 - restored when I got it.
Cabinet Glenwood 8 (parts stove)
Glenwood Cherub Wood (parts stove) - has revertible flu - Emory says this is rare!
Royal Stewart 171 Oak
Smith & Anthony Hub Heater (at the Stove Hospital now)
Smith & Anthony Pearl Hub Kitchen Range (1912) - bought this in 2008
Acme Carbon Double Heater (needs all 3 doors - HELP!!)
Emery Rival Box Stove (1901) - cute
Crawford Wood Parlor (not modern series) - in beautiful original shape

I'll probably sell the parts stoves and the kitchen range this summer

3 Grand Godins - FOR SALE NOW!!!

So - that's it for now - Chris

Congratulations. That No. 6 looks like after you get the grate fixed it just needs some polishing to use.

Thanks Franco - It's in great shape, but needs to be completely resealed before use.

The nice couple I bought it from said that they bought it in 1970, and it was sealed up inside a box attached to the wall. It was so covered in glop, they couldn't see the beautiful castings. They carefully wire brushed it off. The nickle's original too!

This one I will probably use stove polish instead of paint.

Way to go Chris, you have a talent of finding them that is for sure. I hope you have fun with your catch. For my money, you truly understand the meaning of diversity, the last time I saw a man as crazy as you I was looking in the mirror.

Excellent. Which one are you going to use to heat the house with?

Thanks Bill - Because of the configuration of our 1793 house, which is the opposite of open plan, we need to use two and even have three going during January and February.

This upcoming season I probably will use the S&A Hub Heater (now at Emory's) in our large kitchen and use the already restored City Glenwood 12 to heat our Keeping Room (original kitchen), which is in the center of the downstairs. I also have a Petite Godin in our large living room. We use the Godin only during the coldest months. That stove vents into a titanium liner which parallels the titanium flue pipe which connects to the Keeping Room stove. In order to get even heat around the downstairs in this historic house, this is what's needed. I wish I could use less.

I don't want to rush the No.6 into service. If I need to, I'll work on it this winter (or give it to Emory next Spring)

So, that's the plan.

Thanks - Chris

How about making a photo archive of each stove with its make & model all together in one nice thread?

Thanks for the suggestion of the photo archive. I'd be happy to create one as my time allows.

I need some guidelines - would this be photos of each stove in my collection (restored and unrestored) - all four sides - or just a couple of shots of each stove?

I wouldn't want to over do it and create an unwieldy post.

So, let me know and I'll get on it. I enjoy passing along information about these antique gems.

Chris

My suggestion is an overall view front and back, and then views of what makes this stove unique. For instance the grate or spacial flue gas routing. Pictures of the grate and firebox for all the stoves.

Hi Guys - I'm really busy right now with non-coal related work, but the season's fast approaching, and I've got to get my new stoves on line, replacing my two Grand Godins which I hope to pass along to someone else.

I'll be checking in with Emory soon, to see how he's coming with the Hub Heater we brought him in early June.

I'll discuss the Glenwood No. 6 I bought earlier this month, with them at that time.

I do plan to post the pictures of my stoves this late summer/early fall - time permitting.

Best to All - Chris

Chris, sizable stove parking lot you have!

I'm looking to part with:
-Glenwood City #14 {missing boot rails, dome & finial] inqire re condition [parts]
- nickel dome for Modern Glenwood Oak 116 [bit of rust-not too bad]
- nickel piece of apron trim for Modern Glenwood Oak 114....mint shape

I'm looking for:
- two boot rails for Glenwood baseheater #6
- rectangular 'dome' & finial for Glenwood Cherub wood stove #24...also need front boot rail for this

Chris what kind of shape is your Cherub indirect draft in? #22 or #24? [should say on lower back]
Thanks!
Paul
