One of my elective series of classes I took in college was Urban Studies. I didn't need it for my major, but; I wanted to take it anyway.
The thrust of several of my leftist, communist professors was the, "evil" and "unfairness," of white flight out of the major cities. They openly taught that it should be stopped because whitey takes his tax revenue with him.
The left hates the idea of the Suburb or anyone having the ability to commute away from the decaying, impoverished, crime ridden, crap holes these leftists have created.
I know there has been some joking here about this, but; they aren't joking. The Obama Administration is using all the regulatory power it has to eventually make it impossible to live outside of the city and commute to work in it. It will soon be too expensive to do so. They want to be able to hold successful people hostage so they can rape them via taxes.

Land usage control, control of any natural waterways or streams, water usage restrictions, restriction in new permits for home building, more and more costly permits to do anything on one's property, fines, levies, increases in tolls, gasoline taxes, easement restrictions and fees for new home construction and so on. A recent local example of this madness has been implemented in Maryland where property owners are taxed for the amount of rain that runs off their property. It is a move to make it too expensive for the average person to own any significant amount of land.

Can you say "UN Agenda 21". Herd the masses in to the cities where it will be easier to control them. I'm sorry did I say control? What I wanted to say was "care" for the masses. Yea "care" is a better way to say it, the morons will believe that. The government exists to take you. No, no, no, I wanted to say take care of you. :D

Are you all saying that Detroit has never had a con mayor? It must be a very simplistic world to just put blame in one direction & take no responsibility for the other. The Fed. Gov. had as much if not more to do with the downfall of the cities as local did, there is plenty of corruption to go around yet to some it gets real easy. I think that's much of the problem we have now except some people recognize it now, the latest poll I saw was that Congress has reached yet another historic low but better yet the majority of all voters are ready to throw them all out & start all over, something that has never happened before but to be fair I don't know if it was ever asked.

Detroit is screwed due to the fact the cash cow has dried up. Too many sucking on its teets for far too long. Allowed mostly by the liberal mentality of the government. They had and still have the mommy and daddy will bail me out mentality.

While you are deciding who to blame for the downfall of Detroit, let me throw another hat in the ring. How about the auto unions and their part in it? There you go, now I did it. :o

Cant blame industry for moving out. Sucks to see it happen, but hey how dare they make money and keep it for themselves! We should keep upping the taxes levied on big industry for goodness sakes how dare they make profit and provide a product that makes money and provide jobs. The mentality of a company that makes windfall profits so lets tax 'em more is so retarted. Why would they want to invest and prolong thier company if they arent making the dough? Or they make the money and some goddamn greedy organization such as the union or the government takes it! My grandpop and I argue about this all the time say like the oil company. His thoughts its bullshit they charge so darn much for oil products, while i must say gas prices are high and cringe when I fill the truck, stop using the goddamn product not tax the *censored* outta them. After all they do provide jobs and a product that is in demand how dare they make money. The federal government was not established to provide! Drives me bananas, I guess im too young to know any better :gee:

Good points about the evil unions but there again you have to ask how they got there. Can't just blame one side without the other, like everything else it seems things start out with good & in the unions case necessary intentions but then decades greed took over & safety & working conditions were far down the list. It's greed on both sides, profits are made but no body wants to share, reinvestment & maint. become a cost cutting venue that can be ignored (for a time). With Detroit as with most after WW2 things didn't change all that much while the rest of the world was building new(usually with our help) soon they become the producers & we become the marketplace. That works for awhile until like now there is no longer a thriving marketplace when production is begging for markets. There is a fine line with everything too much of a good thing can be as bad as not enough.

The way to restore Detriot to greatness is to restore it to the level of legislative and economic freedom that it was under when it first became great. Remove virtually all laws and taxation and economic restrictions on the Local, State, and Federal level, and you will achieve that goal. I.E, restore Detroit to well pre-1900 in all regards. Then it will be free, and as such it's entrepenurs will have the freedom to once again prosper.

Or you can tax it more, legislate it more, micro-mange it more, dominate and crush it more, throw more welfare and hand-outs to it, and in effect apply more of the currently popular idea that "the beatings will continue until conditions improve", and see how well that (I.E., doing more of the same that brought Detroit to its knees) works out.

Just one question, how would Detroit or anywhere for that matter any longer be a city? Where would they get the utilities, infrastructure or anything else, somehow I get the feeling that everything & everyone should be left to do what ever they want & pay nothing. Are you saying that a city grew around a business?

As usual the tears are for the criminal extortionists who destroyed the city. What about the hundreds of thousands who lost their homes and livelihoods and will get nothing, not even awareness of their plight or sympathy while the thieves and bums will probably get bailed out once again with more extortion of the public in general?

Like your last post Sam, finally some balance.

Private enterprise and the truly free marketplace. All government agencies and their subcontractors would be closed down (including the police) so loads of dead weight baggage and infrastructure would be useless.

But could you imagine the businesses that would swarm to a truly free economic zone? That means free of regulations rules, taxation, etc... Just like how it was back when the (so called) Robber Barons (such as Henry Ford) made America great and put everyone to work.

Do you mean to go back to the company store, housing, low wages, no benefits & unsafe work conditions all in the name of profit for a few above everything else. Doing away with all that police crap I guess Pinkertons would be in demand for the chosen few, they could just dump the waste anywhere including the air, sounds like a place American workers would flock to (sarcasm)better not close those borders.
Henry Ford was one of the few that kept cost down so that his workers could help form a market & he did a lot of good for them that the others disliked, much of it to attract good workers, back then there was enough need that some started to consider the worker as more than a commodity. Ad doing all this using the infrastructure already in place instead of having to build & maintain as the ones before them & despite having done that they still made money without others running their businesses & raping the profits. Give credit where credit is due, times were a lot different then & now.
