Can you believe these commercials of late, sponsored by the OHDA "I think". They proclaim the benefits and convince of oil heat, and then have the gall to say it's still cheaper then it was in 1980! What a load of bull. They forget to mention that the price doubled in the last couple of years! :mad3: I guess they have to do something with all the 'windfall profits'.

If you are going to give the president credit for higher oil prices are you willing to give him credit for our homeland not being attacked since 9/11?

Bush doesn't deserve any credit for no attacks within the US since 9/11/2001.......There were no attacks in the US between 1993 (first bombing of WTC) to final WTC attack on 9/11/2001. Does Clinton deserve the credit for that?

Bush does deserve credit for:

1. Firing US Attys for petty political reasons
2. We cant afford to heat our homes (except the members of this forum!) or drive our cars/trucks
3. Our homes are losing their value
4. Breaking our military
5. Outsourceing our good jobs
6. Making the US almost universaly hated throughout the world
7. Making FEMA, TSA, Dept of Homeland Sec, State & Justice Depts ....ad infinitum.................... a joke
8. Preventing children from being covered by health insurance so that we taxpayers can continue to bankroll the Bush family war.
9. To many more to continue with :(

Let's make it simpler...Would someone explain something Bush has done that makes our (our= middle class Amercans) lives or the US better?

Ya know...I could have sworn this Anthracite Coal Discussion and News post was titled "Oil Heat Commercials on TV!" and not "Political Opinions" which is located in General & Off Topic Posts??? Guess I was wrong when I opened it up to read about Oil Heat Commercials.

No problem. Only reason why I posted is because "Oil Heat Commercials on TV!" sparked my interest. Then I see a picture which I assume is not part of these commercials and I knew eventually so called "venom" was going to be released. I'd like to know more about these commercials. What station are they being broadcasted on? Do you know if they are in print also? If so, which periodical or paper?

I'm not in front of the tube much and the primary newspaper in my region is grossly biased. So I have not seen these commercials. Sounds interesting and I am wondering if they did an inflation/cost of living comparison to compare 1980 wages vs. fuel prices to 2007 wages vs. fuel prices.

I can't remeber exactly which stations/shows I saw them on. But here are the stations I watch the most!
History and Discovery channels, Newtorks ABC, evening news and GMA , and the Weather Channel of course! I will make some mental notes for you over the next couple of days!
I ready think that " They think people are stupid ", who's gonna believe that oil is a bargain right now?
Then again a guy at work here heard me talking about "Heating with Coal", and had to throw in his 2 cents!
He used to have a stoker like 15 years ago, I think it was a 'Keystoker'(No offense girlie men), and used 6 tons to heat a 4 bedroom home in Lehigh Valley Pa. Now he claims he is spending less on oil to heat the same home? He mentioned 150 a ton, * 6 = $900 a year. @ $3 a gallon that's only 300 gallons, a little more than 1 tank full.
He said his new oil burner was 99% effienct and that's when I knew he was full of bull! :wtf:
I don't think his stroker was working properly, cause that's alot of coal , I will be lucky if I burn half that amount! for 1800 sq ft house?
He did add that he's didn't include the cost to add a complete oil setup in house, burner and delivery system, my guess about 10 grand! Maybe they gave him a good deal on oil for a couple of years to sell the system to him, who knows?

My big gripe with the cost of oil is, somebody is making alot of money off the stuff right now. The retailers say "our profits are only pennies on the gallon", the Big Oil Co's say we're reinvesting our profits into exploration, so they don't have to pay taxes! The refiners say" they wouldn't let us build new ones".

Who's making all money in the last couple of years?

When adjusted for inflation, gas and oil are cheaper than in 1980. Gas and oil prices were held artificially low here in the US for many years while the rest of the world paid market rates. I understand the frustration but when those types of comments are made that infer somehow the President (read any president) is responsible for high energy costs, you show a real lack of understanding of how world markets work today. Energy prices are where they are due to many reasons. First and foremost, it is due to a major increase in demand from huge countries like China and India, a lack of adequate refining capacity, legislation requiring "designer gas" for various parts of the country, speculators fears of terrorism, war and natural disasters that affect the supply chain. etc.
Oil is a commidty like any other. The industry promotes itself, like any other. Oil market share for home heating has been slipping for years. They are in serious decline and fighting for long term survivial. I think it's pretty reasonable that they are advertising. They just won't get any of my money!

Coalkirk I agree with you. I think the oil brokers a making a ton of money. I was talking to a friend who worked for a local refinery They had excess inventory and sold it off to a broker. Later they decided they needed to buy some back and paid through the nose for it. George
