Pacowy, work for the railroad know albout the bike lobby and their trails. I just don't think my tax money should be spent for their trails. With the exception of kids they should have to register the bicycles. My dam dog has to be registered. If the states were serious about making money they would put tolls on these paths. Why should everyone forced to commute to work suffer. Don't you think I would like to walk to work. Unfortunaately New Hampshire isn't to motivated for commuter rail and to be honest I don't want my taxes going up to pay for it. Also the bike lobby is already after the right of way between Newburyport and Portsmouth. The last of the rail between Hampton and Portsmouth was ripped up a couple months ago. People just love sitting in traffic I guess. Oh well probably going to spark some outrage, but thats how I see it. Matt.
I'm not saying all of the projects are sensible, but there are a lot of them and they get approved in places with all types of political orientations. If there's good news for the railroads, it is that many of these projects have the effect of preserving the rail right of way ("railbanking") for future use while relieving the railroad of most/all of the costs. The trail use is "interim", and subject to restoration of rail service if future conditions warrant.
Maybe my great, great grand kids will see passenger rail service restored to Portsmouth. Winter will be her soon and I won't have to deal with these bike people. Their suppose to follow the rules of the road too. Ok I'll shout my mouth now.
Bike people are pretty good around here for the most part anyhow (always one or two) it's the ATV's & golf carts even an occasional lawn mower you got to watch out for. Yep they all run on the roads along with the snow mobiles come winter snows.
