By continuously running the fire off the end of the grate which will overheat the grate, plenum, and hopper. This stove was trying to heat too large an area. The guy I got it from traded it to me as part of a Harman Magnum purchase deal (he needed the 85,000 btus of the Harman). This stove only has 48,000 btus and he was trying to heat the whole house.
Bottom line, operate your stove as per manufacturers directions, and perform the prescribed maintenance faithfully. If you do that this will never be your stove.
