When Did Politics Become "To Tell The Truth ?"

When Did Politics Become "To Tell The Truth ?"

PostBy: Devil505 On: Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:48 am

I'm sure some members are old enough to remember the old TV game show "To Tell The Truth" (in which celebrity panelists quiz three contestants to identify two imposters. At the end of the game Gary Moore would say..."Will the real ________ please stand up.")
Has anyone noticed that national politics has turned into a real life version of this game?

Here's how the game works:
We (the voters) serve as the celebrity panelists & a parade of contestants (politicians seeking office) come before us & try to hide who they really are until they the very end of the game. (They only show their true identities when safely ensconsed in office) In order to be more succesfuly in hiding their true identities, they each hire a team of proffesional ad men & handlers who tell them: what to wear, say, walk, eat, how to smile, etc)

Great premise for a TV game show...Lousy way to choose our leaders!

I think this goes back to the thread I started on term limits, you new guy may very well have all the intentions in the world of trying to make changes but then he gets elected and reality sets in. If you don't play ball you don't get squat, so it's either play politics or get nothing. Add to that no one wants to not reelect their own legislators because if the guy has been in their for along time he's really bringing home the bacon.

For these reasons and others i think term limits is the best thing that could ever happen to our political process.

IMO it's not just politics, we as people have chosen to allow ad men to shape our culture, our thought process and our values. Very few people truly think for themselves, our world constantly bombards us with media in the form of images/text/music that tells us what to wear, what to drive, how to eat, how to heat our homes, what to think, etc.

Be bold, think for yourself, believe none of what you hear and half of what you see. Your heart knows the truth, your head will lie to you. The ancient Toltecs knew that our world is an illusion and that the lies created by the brain are like disease and that we humans live in a dream world. So my answer to your question is, it has always been that way for all of human history, we now have a chance to change that.

Each of us needs to WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I know I am a nut case... but I'm very happy like this! toothy :woot:  :what:
