Chimney sweep was here on Friday, 8/23. Since I heat with both coal and wood, a clean flue and chimney is a must! I probably have 200 bags of coal stacked in the basement (stacked 6 pallets worth of bags in basement last summer!) and outside 2-3 years worth of wood split and stacked. Wife says the Farmer's Almanac and Weather Channel both indicate a "brutally cold" winter for those of us in the U.P. of Michigan. So, we're as ready to go as we're every going to be! :D :D

Yeah. Just heard the Almanac's prediction today saying the winter is going to be COLD! They predict a snow storm during the super bowl.

I bought an extra pallet this year. I think that will be a lucky purchase.

It is all packed in the cellar and just waiting for the cold to come. Bring it on!!!! :)

I've prob got 5 cords (full cords) of wood, and 2 tons of coal on hand. Plus half a triaxle load of logs that needs cut up yet. I will be cutting more wood too. I have a feeling that Mother Nature will hand us our a$$es this winter!! :-/

I haven't even started getting ready. I bought two tons of nut last weekend. Brought one ton home and am going to pick up the other this weekend. Then in about two weeks I'm going to buy two more ton. But I haven't swept the chimney out nor have I prepared the hearth yet. I've got to put one bolt back into the throat plate that fell out after I had shut down last season. Seems the hole is bigger than the bolt. I'm planning on possibly filling it with cement and then sticking the bolt back in. But I'm probably going to wait till mid September to do that.

I just received and order of eight tons of mixed, stove and nut coal from People's Coal in Stroudsburg. Every year I try to buy a little more than I use in order to get a reserve built up.
The Crawford 40 hasn't been hooked up yet. The Glenwood No 6 will be polished and set up in a week or two. Heating season here is just weeks away.

The 2 pellets ( 60 bags/40 Lbs=2,400lbs x2 )are in since the past week. Using less than 2 tons for the 6 Winter months, the reserve grows up each year.
The antiques make a very good job considering heating 2,200 Sf at about the same temperature level in every rooms.
Soon the light bulbs will be replaced with real fire :) if the cold T. can arrive soon 8-) We are all waiting for it...

Just as ready as I was when I shut it down last year. :D

Have a ton on hand and the coal fairy only lives a half hour from here. I'd say I'm good til February before I need to make a run. Storage of more than two ton becomes an issue around here or I'd have more.

Last saturday I drove to Germany and picked up 2.5 ton of coal.
The coal is bagged in bags of 25 kilo +/- 50lbs. and are stacked
in the yard under a tarp.

Took the day off of work, went to Milford to the Ace to get the pipe to hook up the Stoves. They had nothing in stock.
I guess I have to go all the way to, "Stoves and Stuff in Stroudsburg and pay the premium for a 5" to 6" adapter and some elbows.
