Upgraded Exspansion Tank

- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 50-93

- Other Heating: crown oil boiler, backup.if needed
took the watts ET30 off top oil boiller, which has been in use 2 seasons with dual boiler setup, always at 20>24 pounds when both boilers up and running. replaced with an Amtrol SX-40V tank hooked off bottom of watts Microbubble seperator, with a watts RBFF valve between them. isolate fill/backflow valve, or exspansion bottle from system for service with this RBFF valve . Now on to wiring the circulators for on only when theres a heat demanbnd, and having it switch from coal to oil and back based on ltemp of coal boiler when it has long recovery due to extreme lower outside temps(below 10*F). But not running coal boiler loop 24/7 it might not ever drop or have a slow recovery then, will seee

Expansion tank will make it possible to run 12-15 lbs consistently, I would think. Good hustle on that! What are you running for a boiler, a hand fired? If you go ahead with the switching back and forth the boilers based on temp in the coal boiler ,I'm sure your savings are gonna take a major hit. If your not getting a quick enough response with the coal boiler ,I think maybe you should try a Tekmar or similar(coal trol?) thermostat that anticipates demand by reading changes in outside temp and ramping up your system ahead of the anticipated demand. They might even have something that takes into account wind changes and time of day. I'm thinking you'll find that your oil unit will "crowd out" your coal
unit and seriously cut into your coal savings. Unless your coal unit is too small.....???? I think you need a controls makeover, don't start cutting until someone with more knowledge chimes in
