I have searched for a place to order grate bars and can only come up with Australia and there seems to be no way they ship to NY. Does anyone know of a location in the States?

Sorry, I can't be of more help but are you scanning ebay uk as they sometimes you see parts there. I have been offered a C. Severn for cheap but your predicament has given me pause for rethinking that one. AGA parts are devastatingly expensive. It's a shame as they are very cool looking stoves but those thin rods do get stressed with US anthracite. Are they not all just similar row rods and do you not have some unbent ones. Can you remove the straight ones and get them recast and get a few spares? Can you get the whole grate out and photo it - perhaps we can get some ideas here. Miracle stove rebuildings have happened many times on this board. This luny crowd hates to scrap a coal stove so let's have a pic or two. Are the grates the same size as the severn.

Sorry I am not able to do the photo but looking at yours they sure do look the same. Length is approx. 11 inches. By the way, I primarily burn wood since it is abundant where I live.

The reason I ask is your cheapest way out might be to buy a spare stove. For example:

My photos were from that seller. So if you remove all the grate rods and throw the stove away, you can repair your stove and have spares for the future and I am sure other parts are common. The Much Wenlock was different but the Severn and Darby had many common parts. This seller is motivated so a bid of say $400 or less might get it. LOL.

:D Hey, thanks. My goal is to keep the stove and enjoy it for a few more years if possible. I will make my own solution if I have to but I still hope to locate those parts somewhere in my own country.http://nepacrossroads.com/posting.php?m ... &p=364761#

Yes I know my geography but where does anyone say there is a parts place for me in Monmouth? I just want to order the grate bars and move on. ;)

Is in Monmouth NJ, I just doubt that you will find those parts on a AGA dealers shelf - LOL - but search AGA dealers in the US and if you are lucky bring the BIG wallet. It might be cheaper to buy a new house.

Also search this site for Darby owners as there were a couple that we have not heard from in a while but they may have some in the garage or know of a stash or may have retired their stove.

.... and one final thought. If the rods are all the same part number (which I suspect they are), take one of the undamaged ones and have it recast at Tomahawk Foundry in Rice WI and get a few spares. They will be a hell of a lot cheaper than AGA. You have a legacy stove and the days of just buying the part and moving on are over.

Hey, coalnewbie. Thanks for all your help and taking the time to do so. Since I will probably only burn wood from now on I think I can use other items to replace those rods....as in heavy bolts or something similar.
