I have a spare stoker mechanism for my KA-2 on hand in case the original needs replacing. #1 is still working but is noisy like it needs lube. It is only when it is pushing coal, like the gear box is in need of lube.
Has anyone disassembled the gear box and re-lubed it? If so what did you use. Would like to keep my spare and do the maintenance on #1.
Thanks!

I also have the great little KAA2 unit but have not had need to do anything with the gearbox yet. Before I would dis assemble that aluminum box I would verify that the push bar/block is not binding for some reason.Basically I am saying to check the nylon screws for sideplay, slop etc, causing a bind. Those gearboxes are not heavily built and I am considering stocking a spare on the shelf myself. Please tell us what you find as you hunt the "gremlin". This Spring I did take the unit out and could not see any binding. I think I will pull it out again and power it up on the workbench when I do my pre=heating season maintenance.

Is it straining or squealing? The pusher block that puts coal out has nylon screws on each side of it. Ensure that the nylon screws are not worn down. They can wear and allow the block to tilt and not get straight travel. That will cause the gearcase to have to provide extra force which may cause it to strain.
