I Lit my first coal fire last night!

I am in love!
I'll post pix of the boiler install after i clean the area up a bit, allot of fittings, tools and scrap in the area, but i must say i do like burning coal, it starts easy, quiet and less mess than wood. Simply said the leisure line wl110 boiler is a pleasure to install and work around, extremely quiet and efficient. In fact my only complaint would be the rheostat for the power vent system is a little ify, seems to let the venter creep up or down at times. i have found a spot it is working ok now. i will continue to play with the idle timer, think I've got it set to 8 minutes off, 2.5 minutes on, com. fan at5 oclock, stoker 3 oclock. any advice would be appreciated. ive also set the combustion blower damper about 3/4 open, maintains about -.075 " wc draft over fire

My friend has a wl110 and loves it. I know what you mean about wood. Don't even want to bother with lighting a fireplace knowing i have a coal stove in the basement. Hope you have a good heating season. Matt

I told myself, Im not firing this hog up until she gets good and chilly out. So i bought some charcoal for a quick fire to take chill out, :shifty: I may have snuck a 5 gal pale on  . Oh well saves on the dehumidifier. I can control my main floor temps beautiful even in high 60's to low 70's.

i had to turn temp down, dump zone was tripping, i need to get busy on that domestic water coil, and tie in a dedicated power circuit to the boiler and vent. Bet the coal usage will triple after dhw is up and operating, but for now it cycles a few times a night as zones come on, but idles all day. Temp plummets when a zone comes on, i may need a buffer tank, drops 30 degrees in less than a minute . takes about twenty minutes to recover or more.

Nice clean setup, now all you need is a coal vac system or auger to fill hopper

What is the water capacity of the WL 110?

PS: I think the water capacity of my AHS S130 is 27 gallons, and I consider that marginal. At one time or another I have considered getting a "reverse indirect" hot water tank, as that would both suffice as a buffer tank and a DHW tank, serving dual purpose.

http://www.ergomax.com/New-Tanks.htm

The smallest of these (from either manufacturer) are 23 gallons in capacity, and looping the boiler to one of these would (in my case) make for 50 gallons of capacity.

As far as buffer tanks go...the fellars that burn the wood gasifier boilers built their own buffer tanks for small $$$$. ;)
It is not an option...their fires are of short duration and very intense...they need storage.
Now gasifiers are not pressureized...but that can still work for us by using a heat exchanger.

I feel ashamed that I wimped out and lit up. I had to refer to my LL AnthraLing AK110 (hot air) lighting instructions. Put in coal, light mouse, set time/temp on coaltrol --- yawn --- now where is my coffee. Whoops, I just remembered that I left the ash pan upside down...... Well it's fool proof but not idiot proof
