My dog eats coal

Yes, it's true. Used to be just the odd morsel I had spilled while filling the hopper. Yesterday I caught him with his head in the can I use for drying wet coal before loading the stove. He was eating like it was his supper. I've heard they use anthracite as a water purification agent (like activated charcol I guess). Does this mean he'll start passing "mountain air" instead of gas? BTW his teeth are really clean, too.

Better than a regular rock, I had a customer who had a dog that loved rocks. I think someone else had posted in the past their dog was eating coal too. Just don't go lighting anything by him.

My first rottie wouldn't eat anything I did give him. This one regularly eats socks, underwear, barbie doll parts, rocks, coal, plastic...anything. When he was less than a year old I had to drop $1200 on him to have exploratory surgery done because he was plugged up from eating a rock. He passed it that morning, but they still wanted to go in...so...I don't use that vet anymore and the older he gets, the less he eats...he does slurp up the few little pieces of rice coal that fall around the stove....

Only beneficial if he is able to give some indication of the quality otherwise DUMB dog

i got cats that think the coal bin is a giant litter box......been puttin the little bastards in jail when they come inside

The dog may be smarter than we think, I would imagine the coal would have a cleansing affect. Sort of a high colonic?

Just be glad he hasn't developed a taste for fuel oil, you wouldn't be able to afford him anymore.

I'd much rather have a dog that eats coal than 3 cats that poop in the outside bin if I don't shut the lid. Every time I catch one cleaning coal dust off its paws, I know there's a present waiting for me.

Yep, I have a 100 lb Yellow Lab......... He eats it toooo!!! Follows me from the coal bin to the stove and eats the pieces that hit the floor!!! Crazy Dog!

My cat uses coal for a bed.....

One of my cats will trap a mouse and then kill and EAT it. I've had cats and dogs for years, I never had a cat before that ate the mouse after the kill.
It's kinda gross, she had one last year under our bed, lots of crunching noises. Left a little gut pile on the floor when she was done.
The mouse problem is something all old house owners have to deal with. I also had a mole in here once, one of my now departed cats took care of it in short order.

Yes, they are a bit noisey with bone in.
I have a calico that eats rabbits, starts at the head.
That little gut pile is usually the colon, thats not the best part of the mouse considering whats in it.
