Annual flu shots

Annual flu shots

PostBy: samhill On: Mon Sep 16, 2013 4:08 pm

I know many here would not even think of getting one & that's fine but for those that do it's that time of year again. I just got mine & I'll thank you all in advance since I go to the local VA Clinic & get mine at tax payer expense.

Everybody gets them at taxpayer expense. Walk into any CVS or Walgreens and they'll be happy to shoot you up with as much mercury as you can stand. Get your shingles and whooping cough shots at the same time!

I probably started getting mine when I hit 62--no need when I was a young woodpecker. It's all pretty much a crap shoot anyway, but I will say I've only gotten sick one winter in 6 years since starting & that was my own goofy fault--proofs in the pudding---just sayin:)

If you do or don't get one, that is completely up to you. However; if you have small children in the house who go to school, I suggest getting one. I never knew what sick was until my kids started school. Every year since my 9 year old has been in school I have come down with bronchitis. One year I didn't get a flu shot and I got the flu...it was unpleasant to say the least. I also got a pneumonia shot 2 years ago right after surgery. I had every single side effect known to the shot and thought for sure I was going to die. The doc said I wouldn't need a second one until I was in my 60s. I think I will pass.

Between having little ones and working in a confined space with 3000 people, a flu shot is pretty much necessary for me.

Just to let people know... this year they have the cheapo flu shot (rated for 3 strains), and the GOOD flu shot they included the highest probable strain for this year (rated for 4 strains)... Im not one who gets the flu shot but IF i was... I would not even think about getting the 3 strain (Id find a place who has the 4 strain available)! I think they call it the quad flu shot.

I just don't see the point if you are younger and relatively healthy.

Yes it's miserable. Yes you might lose time from work. But once you have it, you never have that strain again.

Unlike the flu shot where once it wears off, you have no defense against that strain. So when you are older and less healthy, you stand a good chance of dying from it.

And honestly, I think I might have ACTUALLY had the flu once in my life.

The risk/benefit ratio just doesn't work out for me.
