Do any other members have problems with Internet explorer not opening certain links, slow opening files. Operating system is window vista. If I close internet explorer and use firefox then I can usually open anything. Just tonight tried going into some threads and got sick of waiting, closed IE and started using firefox. Problem with firefox I start getting bombarded with pop ups. Comments, suggestions thanks Matt.

Firefox, go to tools, options, content, block pop up windows, check the box.

Firefox has an addon called adblock plus that will pretty much eliminate that.

Have the pop blocker on, its more of a sidebar with my most recent searches. Heard Vista isn't as good as the previous operating systems. Think I just fixed it. Still get mad at IE though.
Thanks all, Matt

There should be no difference in speed between IE or FF. Both have a pop up blocker option that should prevent any pop up that is not user initiated. When that is enabled if you ar still getting them where the pop ups come from is if you click something on the page, it could be the entire page. Blocking something like that becomes problematic because it could be blocking something well intended.

As far as this site goes there are no pop ups except the notification for new PM's.

DP, I've never spoken with ANYONE that was happy with VISTA--they all went to Windows7 or even back to XP orXL or whatever that earlier one is---just sayin---I'm dumber then a box of rocks with this cyber stuff--but maybe running IE & Firefox is screwing SPEED up??????????????????????????????????? DON"T KNOW, but maybe---------I've always run on that KISS theory--I've only got DSL out here but my IE is just fine considering ;)

Yeah, like the Macbook Pro A1246 that our trainer has. Grey screen of death after 18 months of gentle use. None of the PERT resets etc.etc. work -it's dead, along with his data ... New motherboard needed $750 plus data recovery costs if it's even possible. Yeah, I'm lining up for a Mac for sure. :x You would not want to throw it out of the window as they make very good door stops.

That wouldn't cause any speed issues unless you were running both at the same time and ran out RAM. That of course would slow everything down...

I don't always have these problems. I only use IE or firefox one at a time. I use firefox when ie won't open a link. I think its vista in general. Thanks for the comments. Matt

Vista has had two service packs and many updates. Have you updated yours?

I have the Windows 7 update but Vista works so well I have not bothered.

Yes, whenever I get a prompt to update I do it. I'm sure its me. Very computer illiterate. Should have paid more attention in highschool computer class. Usually have the wife fix it if I really get stumped.

Forgot, there is also the pop up for the "view more smilies." :oops2:

As I said if you get any other pop ups here then it's coming from somewhere else, malware most likely but that would affect all the sites you view.
