I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about the glass on my Channing iii. I only clean it about once a year usually before start up for the season. The top of the glass has what appears to be cracks in it but when I rub my finger across the outside and the inside of the glass it feels smooth. I will try to post a picture, I first noticed it at the end of last season. Anybody know what this is and what would causes it. Thanks Pete.

It's called etching. Happens to all coal stove glass. It's a ceramic glass. If you want to replace it at some point google Robax glass.

Just the nature of the beast PP--if you're going to replace it---get a couple, three cause down the road, you'll need them at some point ;)

many people including me would run the stove like this (it could last years)... but these guys are right and you should have a spare on hand anyways. A couple tips with ceramic glass... never let liquid near it when its hot, never slam your door, when replacing the glass be VERY VERY careful about tightening brackets that hold glass in place (one lil' extra turn of a screw on the edge of that glass and BOOM/SNAP/CRACK and your cursing up a storm ordering a new glass toothy)

I could make about 10 model 44 glass with your old piece :P don't throw it away!

Really stokers just kill glass, my old Hand fed Buderus glass was crystal clear after 25 plus years with a cleaning of stove glass cleaner. My new Keystoker 90 NOT :x

Thanks for all the information about my stove glass. I guess I'll be making a trip to the Alaska dealer to pick up a new glass to have on hand for when I have to replace the old one. Thanks again for the help. Pete

Just a quick follow up concerning my Channing stove glass. Coalkirk I took your advice a ordered a piece of robax online. The dealer wanted $76.00 for a replacement glass and I was able to get the robax for about the same price, as it turned out the original glass broke when I removed it to get a measurement so it had to be replaced anyhow. I'll see how the robax does and if it holds up any better the, I got five seasons out of the original.

I Plan to put a window in my load door on my furnace. I ordered a piece of ceramic glass from elitecustomglass.com.. The piece I ordered is 4 x 8 x 3/16 inches. Cost was $20.00 for the piece and ended up around $35.00 with shipping and handling. I'll start a new thread on the project when it comes in :D
