Looking at a home security system. Do any of you have one and do you have any recommendations as to what you would buy and why? I have looked at SimpliSafe and a Honeywell system so far.

Oh for christ sake. A guy can't even get a serious answer? I have all the guns I need, I am not home to use them!!! I hate dogs, period. Everyone in this neighborhood has some barking idiot that is on the loose pissing on tires and playing dodge the truck. Other then that, a dog is great as long as he is mean and I am not having an animal big enough to eat one of my granddaughters. Like the pits in the news that killed the 2 year old the other day. AND I am not picking up any other animals crap.
Why do you want one?
Really? Why would I want to deter 85 or 90% of the criminals? If someone is savvy enough to get by an alarm system, they are looking for more then alcohol and change jars. I have several thousands dollars tied up in my firearms and no I don't have a gun safe. If I had that kind of money I would buy another gun! Maybe 2!
Someone in this field of experts must have a security system of have some experience or know someone that slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Are you calling me Joe.. Seriously, I don't use a shot gun for security but for some it is a good choice. And the sound of racking a pump will make most bad guys think do they really want to hang around.

As far as Joe's statement , it was dumb..

The only thing I do not have with me is a shotgun. I gave mine to the son in Maine and purchased him a .45 before I left. Been meaning to get another. I defend the castle with an "assault rifle" and an assortment of handguns. All with big holes in the business end.

Don't have a cow man, just asking, alarm systems are not very affective, the police won't even respond to a call at times because there are so many false alarms, and you can be fined for one.

You can pay for a service if you want , you could also post a sign in your front yard and stickers on your windows. It would work just as good.

You "Hate" dog's?

I was broken into 3 times before I got my Rotties and worked out side my home. I quit and went SE, ( the most loyal loving things you'll ever meet) now 15 yrs later never a trouble. Sure, I've got home protection, but if I'm not there what difference does it make?

You "Hate" dog's?
Says a guys with a cat in his avatar spot. :D I always had a cat but I am allergic to them just slightly more then dogs. The better statement would have been, "I hate most dog owning people." This debate has been had in here before. Now, that does not mean that I hate people just because they have a dog. But when I meet them and see how they act with the dog, how the dog acts with them or toward me and their response, or treat me as opposed to the dog, or the ones that neglect their dogs. They are the most successful parasite, along with cats, of all time. We spend billions on animals that produce nothing but fleas and poop. And cry that we can't afford healthcare? The next thing you know the Liberals will want to put them into the Obamacare program. There are some remarkable and deserving canines in the world, and they have been bred and raised for their job. But the vast majority are just useless. How many children will be torn to shreds before we do something? Sounds like the arguments for gun control huh? Well, they want to certify and quantify and qualify us before we can have a gun, why not the same to have a dog? How about the same to have a child? There are so many dogs running loose here in East Tenn. and N. GA that I see a new one dead in the road about every day. Sometimes more then one. I just don't see the point in "owning" one. And it is like lottery tickets, the poorer the person, the more tickets(and dogs) he has.
