kEEP OR SCRAP

kEEP OR SCRAP

PostBy: Dang On: Sun Sep 29, 2013 6:51 pm

After several months of research,I decided to pick a 1962 efm 520 that was partially refurbished and install it in place of the money sucker (electro pack) my question to the guys who have been burning coal in their 520 for years. How many times has your stoker broken down during winter months and wish that you had a back up. I can't decide wether to remove the electro pack and install the 520 only or keep it installed for emergency situations. The electro pack does work, never a problem with it other then it packing a hefty monthly bill just to keep the house at 68. I will be picking up 520 and will upload some pic of the process of getting it in basement and install

In 30 years with the Van Wert which is similar to the efm no break downs yet. At most shear pins have broken but that is what they are there for.

Having said that since that thing takes up so little space I'd keep it.

Certainly if the electric is working, why remove it? It won't cost a thing to keep it for emergencies.

I agree totally... that lil' thing bothers nothing as long as it remains "Off", emergency or re-sale at least its their if needed.

I would keep it. Effortless heat in the event you are injured or stuck away from home.

Never knew they made them that long ago!

So pretty much that is a tankless water heater and it is being used as a tankless boiler?

Keep it for back up, but hopefully never have to use.

Thanks for the answers, very much appreciated .. what kind of complications will I face with plumbing the 520 in with the electro pack. I will be taking this project on with a buddy, plumbing skills are minimal so any advice would be great.
