I'm on a limited budget, but will be buying a coal stove for sure.

Can a power vent be used on any coal burner?

My affinity is for Warm Morning coal stoves. I have a 414 model in my shop/garage, into a tiled chimney, and a full load lasts 24 hours. Pretty impressive for a small stove.

In my searching, I have pretty well decided on an older, windowed stoker, or a WM 400 circulator.

I can't pop for a 2.5 story metal chimney, nor a purpose-built masonary one.

So, a power vented, thru the wall system would save me a lot of money,

Thanks in advance for any insight the group may have!

Mike

On those stokers having a relatively small amount of coal burning at any one time a power vent can be used because the fire dies very rapidly if electric is lost. Because a hand fed with a large charge of coal burns so long a power vent is too dangerous to use.

You might look at craigslist for used chimney pipe which I see often. Used with wood it usually is in good shape.

I understand the lure of a hand-fired stove and a powervent, but for the reason franco mentioned it is a bad idea. A used stoker stove and a power vent would be the cheap & simple way to get up and running in a few weeks.

they use power vents on hand fireds and power drafts too... but they call them by a different name (They are called Iron Forges and they would meld your steel stove into a puddle of molten lava) toothy
