You can find a lot cheaper. From $3 to $6.

Go to a tile store and Lowes and Home Depot and see what they have. It need not be 1x1. In fact a larger size might be easier to make a fitted border around what you have.

shoman70 wrote:wow another 18 inches up front. that seems like alot, considering pre 1950's alot of coal stoves didnt have a hearth, just on wood floors.

is that a thermometer above the Baro ? if so you may want to move it 90*, opposite of the Baro opening , so it's not picking up any heat from the elbow below it.

i saw one of those in the show room, it is a BIG stove but i'll bet it will idle down just like my new 1400. i can't imagine it ever needing to run over 50%.

does your stove have the new baffle plate above the firebox, behind the hopper ?

yes it has the baffle, hope to fire it up next week. when coal arrives, i have heard nothing but good things about these amish made stoves.

not much house, stove in living room heating the 600 sq. ft on 1st floor and the 600 sq. ft. up stairs.

it's not terribly cold here yet so i have been experimenting with the "idle down" abilities of this stove. to say i am simply impressed would be a great understatement.

i have a couple threads running here you might be interested in that cover my progress so far though i wouldn't say 2 days and nights constitute a vast experience.

just out of curiousity, IS that a thermometer on the pipe above the Baro ?

thanks,
steve

by the way, since you're not burning yet, can you get some pics thru thru the front door past the hopper of the ends of the damper, then with the hopper out and finally thru the top hopper door over the top of the baffle toward the back wall ?

many here will appreciate it.

thanks,
steve

that will be awesome, thanks.

i'm checking stove temp. with the same thermometer placed 1/2 way between the back of the hopper load door and rear edge of stove directly inline with the exit flange.
