That is a sweet sight to see! congrat's on the stove, you may need sun block in that room  A small O-FUDGE mat in front of the stove may be needed though.

Some balled up newspaper, some cowboy charcoal or match lite and you will be stylin'.

You know a small wood fire ( covering the baro with a couple pieces of aluminum foil will speed up the drying ) and also burn off any of the manufacturing lubricants and paint from any and all parts involved. Open the windows and a box fan will help with the burn off smoke.

so did you go ahead and fire it up ?

i hope you have windows and fans, cause if it's like mine ( and i did the first firing outside ) there's going to be oil smoking off and the paint stinks for hours.

will there still be baffle plate pics ?

no matter what setting you are on it will only stay that far open until it gets the house up to that temp. then, it will start to close and only stay open to the extent needed to keep things right there.

i am presently on bead # 6 and have been running at dial position 1.75, that's 350* measured on stove top behind the hopper door.

this morning i came down to find that the stove was running just like always, same temp, same setting. intake air flap hovering about 1/32" off full closed.

the way the bi metal works is that you keep nudging it up until you have the heat soak level you're comfortable with. from there as the outside conditions vary and the inside temp. varies, the flap raises and lowers constantly thru out the preset range, alot of the time you will find it very close to closed. that's a good thing, means you are heating at IDLE and using very little coal.

yes, but first what bead are you on at the flap adjuster and what position on the bi metal dial ?

are you measuring 250* on the stove front where you had the therm. in the pics ? that will be about 75* cooler than the stove top behind the hopper door. i like to track the hottest spot on the stove myself.

i am on bead 5 at the adjuster, 1.75 on the dial and been running 250* at stove top for days. even today when i had alot of solar gain. with my last stove i would have come home to the house being about 80*, this one shut the flap down to closed and opened it about 1/16" as needed to hold the house at 72*, that was obviously not often, and it's still burning admirably.

the present setting leaves me alot of room to turn it down further, which i'm going to do tonight. i'm going to shake it down, get the blues up, then turn it back to 1.5 on the bimetal dial and see if it will burn thru the night at about 200*. i can risk this because it's going to be nice over night and nearly 60 tomorrow. if it goes out i don't care, but i'm sure it will just keep idling along fine.

i had to take off the flap at the bottom of the stove and also had to take off the chain and top part to get stove thru a narrow door way to install it... so maybe i didnt install flap back correctly. because number 4 should be a real high temp but the flap is only open about 1/8 of an inch at that setting.

ok, how wide is the flap open.

if it's more than 1/8" turn the dial down to at least 2 and wait an hour and see if you are still getting the same heat and the flap IS 1/8th or less open.

if not call me 574-202-4604

please put your therm. up on the stove top between the hopper door and the back edge right above the exit flange so we can compare apples to apples.
