We celebrate a slave trader. And I was also wondering if it is a holiday still because of the shut down.

A slave trader, rapist, and murderer. And he was lost. They must have been hard up for a holiday when they made it. I suppose if I worked for a bank or a post office maybe I'd like it.

I never actually read about Columbus, other than grade school teachings and we know how biased they are. I cant believe how cruel he was and how we celebrate the nut. They failed to mention his 7 year rule and how nasty he was in all those early teachings. :(

I vote we don't have any holidays celebrating any person or race. Just maybe groups like Vets and farmers ( You know the people that actually made this nation) . And historical days.

Depending on what history you read, he may or may not have been a slaver and/or rapist.

But everyone, except most Americans, agree that he didn't "discover America".

From what I've read, he never even stepped foot on North America. He discovered the Dominican Republic.
